Installation Procedure
Install the automatic transmission range selector cable (2) into the automatic transmission range selector lever cable bracket.
- If NEW threaded components are being installed, loosen the adhesive using a metal pick or similar tool before proceeding. If threaded components are reused, prepare the threaded components using the following steps:
- Remove any loose cured adhesive from the external threads of the components using a lint free cloth.
- Thread the cleaned components into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive.
- Remove loose debris from internal and external threads using compressed air.
- Apply liquid thread locking adhesive in a strip along half of the length of the external threads, starting at the tip, just prior to installation. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
- Automatic Transmission Range Selector Lever Cable Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
- Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
- Set the parking brake and chock the wheels.
- Check the transmission control proper operation in all selections.
- Ensure the shifter cannot be shifted out of the Park position unless the brake is applied.
Ensure that the cable is properly aligned to the transmission bracket prior to tightening the fastener in order to avoid any damage to the cable and/or bracket. Failure to perform this task can result in the shifter moving out of the Park position unintentionally, causing potential vehicle damage and bodily injury.

Ensure the automatic transmission range selector cable is aligned to the automatic transmission range selector lever cable bracket prior to tightening.
Repeat the cycling of the transmission range select lever through all positions several times in order to distribute the lubrication within the range selector lever cable and reduce the transmission range select lever drag effort.
After installing the transmission range selector shift cable, ensure the shifter cannot be shifted out of the Park position unless the brake is applied. Failure to perform this task can result in the shifter moving out of the Park position unintentionally, causing potential vehicle damage and bodily injury.
