WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
NOTE:

If you were sent here from DTC P0068, P0101, P0121, P1101 - Refer to: Circuit/System Testing.

  1. Ignition - On / Vehicle - In Service Mode
  2. Verify DTC P0641, P0651, P0697, P06A3, P06D2 is not set.
    • Go to next step: If none of the DTCs are set
  3. Verify the scan tool parameter: Throttle Body Idle Air Flow Compensation = Less than 90%
    • Go to next step: If less than 90%
  4. Perform the scan tool control function: Throttle Sweep - Start

Verify the scan tool parameter: Throttle Position Sensor and Sensor 2 = Agree

    • Go to next step: If the specified state
  5. Verify the scan tool parameter:
    • If not in the specified range
    • {Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor}. Refer to: Circuit/System Testing
    • {Turbocharger/Supercharger Boost Pressure Sensor}. Refer to DTC P0236, P0237, or P0238
    • Go to next step: If in the specified range
  6. Engine - Idling - At normal operating temperature.
  7. Verify the scan tool parameter:
    • Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor = 26 to 52 kPa (3.8 to 7.5 PSI)
    • Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor = The value should change with accelerator pedal input.
    • If not in the specified range or does not change

      Refer to: Circuit/System Testing

    • Go to next step: If in the specified range and changes
  8. Verify the scan tool parameter: Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor = The value should not spike or drop out.

Perform the action while monitoring the parameter:

    • Wiggle the harness and connector: B65 Manifold Absolute Pressure and Intake Air Temperature Sensor
    • Wiggle the harness and connector: K20 Engine Control Module
    • If the value spikes or drops out

      Repair as necessary - Wiring / Terminal(s) / Electrical Connector(s)

    • Go to next step: If the value does not spike or drop out
  9. Verify the scan tool parameter: Turbocharger/Supercharger Boost Pressure Sensor = The value should change with accelerator pedal input.
    • Go to next step: If the value changes
  10. Increase the engine speed slowly to 3k RPM and then back to idle.
  11. Perform the scan tool function: Review Stored Data
  12. Observe the scan tool parameter frame by frame with a scan tool: Mass Air Flow Sensor

Verify the scan tool parameter: Mass Air Flow Sensor = The value should not spike or drop out.

    • Go to next step: If the value does not spike or drop out
  13. Verify the tool is available: GE-52250 Variable Pressure Leak Detector
    • If the tool is not available

      Refer to step 17

    • Go to next step: If the tool is available
  14. Perform the following procedure/test: Component/System Leak Test

    Verify the procedure/test passes.

    • If the procedure/test does not pass

      Repair or replace as necessary

    • Go to next step: If the procedure/test passes
  15. Verify the following conditions do not exist:
    • B65 Manifold Absolute Pressure and Intake Air Temperature Sensor - Visible Damage
    • B75 Mass Airflow Sensor - Contamination of the measuring element / Visible Damage/Water intrusion
    • B111 Turbocharger/Supercharger Boost Pressure Sensor
      • Restricted - Moisture/Ice
      • Skewed
    • Q38 Throttle Body
      • Coking/Loose Clamps /Visible Damage
      • Restricted - Moisture/Ice
    • Air Cleaner Element - Dirty / Restricted
    • Catalytic Converter & Exhaust System - Blocked / Leaking /Restricted/Visible Damage - Refer to Symptoms - Engine Exhaust
    • Charge Air Cooler - Restricted /Moisture/Ice
    • Intake Air Duct - Collapsed/Restricted / Visible Damage
    • Intake Manifold - Restricted / Visible Damage
    • NOTE:

It may be necessary to use a scan tool control function to operate a component.

    • Linkage @ M128 Turbocharger Wastegate Actuator - Binding or Sticking/Loose/Visible Damage
    • Q40 Turbocharger Bypass Valve Solenoid - Binding or Sticking/Loose/Visible Damage
    • Positive Crankcase Ventilation System - Restricted - Moisture/Ice
    • If a condition exists

      Repair or replace as necessary

    • Go to next step: If no condition exists
  16. Verify the following conditions do not exist: Engine - Mechanical Condition
      NOTE:

The list is not all encompassing - Refer to Symptoms - Engine Mechanical
