Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2022 Cadillac CT4. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:

Vehicle alignment is not required if the cradle is being lowered or dropped to perform another procedure. This vehicle is equipped with a cradle to body aligning feature: cradle to body through holes or self-aligning pins that are part of the cradle or body. Only align if replacing the cradle with a NEW part and transferring components.

  1. Install the engine support fixture.

    Engine Mount Nut-Left Side (1) - Remove

  4. Raise and support the vehicle. Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle

    Front Bumper Fascia Center Air Deflector Bolt (1) - Remove [10x]

    Front Bumper Fascia Air Deflector Screw (1) - Remove [3x]

    Front Bumper Fascia Center Air Deflector Bolt (1) - Remove [6x]

  8. Front Bumper Fascia Center Air Deflector Bolt (2) - Remove [5x]

    Pull the front bumper fascia center air deflector (1) rearward and down from the front bumper fascia.

    Front Wheelhouse Liner Bolt (1) - Remove

  12. Engine Front Splash Shield Retainer (2) - Remove [2x]
  13. Engine Front Splash Shield Bolt (3) - Remove

    Front Wheelhouse Liner Bolt (3) - Remove

  15. Engine Front Splash Shield Retainer (2) - Remove [2x]

    Front Compartment Air Deflector Bolt (1) - Remove [4x]

    NOTE:

    Do NOT allow the ball stud to rotate while loosening the nut.

    Front Lower Control Arm Ball Stud Nut (1) - Loosen

    Using the CH-42188-B  Ball Joint Separator (1), separate the front lower control rear link from the steering knuckle.

    Front Lower Control Arm Ball Stud Nut (1) - Remove

  22. Remove the front lower control rear link from the steering knuckle.

    NOTE:

    Do NOT allow the ball stud to rotate while loosening the nut.

    Front Lower Control Arm Ball Stud Nut (1) - Loosen

    Using the CH-42188-B  Ball Joint Separator (1), separate the front lower control front link from the steering knuckle.

    Front Lower Control Arm Ball Stud Nut (1) - Remove

  26. Remove the front lower control front link from the steering knuckle.

    NOTE:

    Loosen the left and right steering linkage outer tie rod nuts (1).

    CAUTION:

    Do not attempt to disconnect a steering linkage joint by driving a wedge between the joint and the attached part. Seal damage may result which will cause premature failure of the joint.

    NOTE:

    Some components not shown for graphic clarity.

    Using the CH-42188-B  Ball Joint Separator (1), separate the left and right steering linkage outer tie rods (2) from the left and right steering knuckles.

    Remove the left and right steering linkage outer tie rod nuts (1).

    Separate the left and right steering linkage outer tie rods (1) from the left and right steering knuckles.

    Remove the stabilizer shaft link nut (1) from the left and right side stabilizer shaft link.

  33. Separate the stabilizer shaft link from the stabilizer shaft on the left and right side.
  34. CAUTION:

    During removal and installation, all EPS components including mechanical and/or electrical is extremely susceptible to damage. Dropping or prying on any EPS component may cause internal damage. If damage occurs or a part is dropped, the EPS component must be replaced.

    CAUTION:

    Care must be taken during removal and installation of the Electronic Power Steering (EPS) components to not hit or break the EPS motor/controller module or module harness connectors. If the EPS motor/ controller module or module connectors are damaged, the complete component must be replaced.

    Disconnect the steering gear electrical connectors. (1)

  36. Support the radiator.
  37. CAUTION:

    With wheels of the vehicle facing straight ahead, secure the steering wheel utilizing steering column anti-rotation pin, steering column lock, or a strap to prevent rotation. Locking of the steering column will prevent damage and a possible malfunction of the SIR system. The steering wheel must be secured in position before disconnecting the following components:

    • The steering column
    • The intermediate shaft (s)
    • The steering gear

    After disconnecting these components, do not rotate the steering wheel or move the front tires and wheels. Failure to follow this procedure may cause the SIR coil assembly to become un-centered and cause possible damage to the SIR coil. If you think the SIR coil has become un-centered, refer to your specific SIR coil's centering procedure to re-center SIR Coil.

  38. Secure the steering wheel so it will not turn when the mid intermediate steering shaft is disconnected.

    Intermediate Steering Shaft Lower Bolt (1) - Remove

  40. Remove the intermediate steering shaft at steering gear.

    { If equipped } Front Crossmember Brace Nut (1) - Remove [4x]

    Front Wheelhouse Liner Retainer (2) @ Front Wheelhouse Liner (1) - Remove

    Front Crossmember Brace Bolt (1) - Remove [4x]

    Front Wheelhouse Liner Retainer (1) @ Front Wheelhouse Liner (2) - Remove

    Front Crossmember Brace Bolt (1) - Remove [4x]

  49. Front Crossmember Brace Nut (2) - Remove
  50. Front Crossmember Brace-Left Side (3) - Remove

    Disconnect the electrical connectors (1) at the engine mounts.

  52. Disconnect any harness retainers attached to the drivetrain and front suspension cradle.

    Install EN-39580  engine support stand under the drivetrain and front suspension cradle.

  54. Lower the vehicle until the drivetrain and front suspension cradle is resting lightly on the jackstands.
  55. Drivetrain and Front Suspension Cradle Rear Bolt (2) - Remove and DISCARD [2x]
  56. Drivetrain and Front Suspension Cradle Front Bolt (1) - Remove and DISCARD [4x]
  57. With the aid of an assistant, carefully raise the body from the drivetrain and front suspension cradle.
  58. Ensure when raising the body, the following items are clear from the drivetrain and front suspension cradle:
    • Vacuum lines
    • Steering knuckles
    • Electrical wiring harnesses
    • Oil coolers lines
  59. Drivetrain and Front Suspension Cradle (3) - Remove
