Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection 
  2. WARNING:

    Refer to SIR Warning .

  3. Disable the SIR system. SIR Disabling and Enabling

    Front Seat Bolt (1) - Remove[4x]

  5. Disconnect the electrical connector.
  6. Front Seat(2) - Remove

    With a flat bladed plastic trim tool, start at the front and work your way back to release the clips.

  8. Instrument Panel Outer Trim Cover(1) - Remove

  10. Starting at the rear of the front side door sill garnish molding (1), pull upward at the b-pillar joint to disengage the garnish molding.
  11. Work your way forward disengaging all the front side door sill garnish molding clips then pull rearward to disengage the clip on the forward vertical wall.

    Rear Seat Cushion(1) - Remove - Rear Seat Cushion Removal and Installation

    Fold the rear seat back to the downward position.

  15. Access the rear seat back bolster retainer lock (1) through a slot in the upper portion of the bolster.
  16. Slide the rear seat back bolster retainer lock (1) toward the front of the vehicle.

  18. Rear Seat Back Bolster Nut (1) - Remove
  19. Squeeze the rear seat back bolster retainer to release it.

    Use the appropriate plastic trim tool to aid in removal of the rear side door sill garnish molding (1).

    Front Seat Belt Anchor Plate Tensioner Cover(1) - Remove

    Instrument Panel Lower Airbag Nut(1) - Remove[2x]

    Disconnect the electrical connector at lower airbag and remove from vehicle.

  29. Disconnect the hood primary latch release cable end retainer from the hood primary latch release cable handle (1).

    Instrument Panel Lower Trim Panel Insulator Retainer(1) - Remove

  31. Instrument Panel Insulator Bolt(2) - Remove[2x]
  32. Instrument Panel Insulator Nut(3) - Remove[2x]

    NOTE:

    Use a plastic trim tool if necessary.

    Release the tabs from the instrument panel lower trim panel insulator (1).

    Instrument Panel Lower Trim Panel Insulator(1) - Remove

  35. Disconnect the electrical connector.

    Move the steering column up so you can access the lower left corner of the instrument panel center trim pad (1).

  37. Start with a flat-bladed plastic trim tool in the lower left corner of the instrument panel center trim pad (1) and work your way clockwise.

    Data Link Connector Bolt(1) - Remove[2x]

  41. Instrument Panel Knee Bolster Bolt(2) - Remove[3x]

    Release the clips with a suitable tool.

  43. Disconnect and reposition harness as necessary.
  44. Clear the instrument panel knee bolster deflector studs when removing the instrument panel knee bolster (1).

    Use a flat-bladed plastic trim tool to release the driver footrest (1) from the driver footrest bracket.

  46. Pull the driver footrest (1) out at the top first, then release the bottom integral tab.

    Floor Carpet Retainer Button(1) - Remove

    Body Front Wiring Harness Bracket (1) - Reposition away

    Reposition the front floor panel carpet as necessary.

  58. Remove the front floor panel carpet filler (1).

    Retainer(1) - Remove

    NOTE:

    Use a small flat-bladed tool to disengage integral tabs on cargo tie down loop bolt cap

    Cargo Tie Down Loop Bolt Cap(1) - Remove[2x]

    Rear Compartment Floor Panel Trim(1) - Remove

    Use a small flat-bladed tool to disengage integral tabs on rear end trim finish panel opening cover (1).

    With a flat bladed plastic trim tool, disengage the integral clips.

    Carefully manipulate the deck lid hinge opening of the rear compartment side trim, past the hinge cover.

    Rear Compartment Side Trim Insulator Retainer (1) - Remove[3x]

    Retaining Tab(1) - Disengage[2x]

    Battery Positive Cable Nut(1) - Remove[2x]

  74. Retainer(2) - Disengage[2x]

    Retainer(1) - Disengage

  77. Feed the battery positive cables (2) into the rear passenger compartment.

    Disengage the battery positive cables (2) from the harness channel tabs (1).

    Disengage the 14 harness channel tabs (1).

  80. Retainer(2) - Disengage

    Remove the tie straps. (1)

    Retainer(1) - Disengage[5x]

    Using the appropriate trim tool, remove the windshield wiper arm finish caps (1) from both windshield wiper arms (3).

  86. Windshield Wiper Arm Nut(2) - Remove[2x]
  87. Grasp the outer ends of the windshield wiper arms (3) and gently rock both arms back and forth to remove the windshield wiper arms (3) from the windshield wiper transmission pivot shafts.

    Apply two layers of masking tape on the body around the top edges of the air inlet grille panel extensions (1) to prevent paint damage.

  89. Using a suitable plastic trim tool, carefully release the air inlet grille panel extension (1) clips.
  90. Remove the air inlet grille panel extensions (1) from the air inlet grille panel and both upper front fenders.

    Remove the hood rear outer air inlet seal retainers (1) from both sides.

  92. Remove the hood rear outer air inlet seals (2) from both sides.

    Remove the front compartment side sight shield retainers (1) from both sides.

    Air Inlet Grille Panel Retainer(1) - Remove[6x]

  97. Disconnect the windshield washer nozzle hose from the windshield washer pump hose.
  98. Lift the front edge of the air inlet grille panel (2) and slide the panel forward from both hood hinges and remove.

    Windshield Wiper System Module Shield(1) - Remove

    Disconnect the windshield wiper motor electrical connector.

  101. Windshield Wiper System Module Bolt(1) - Remove[2x]
  102. Slide the windshield wiper system module (2) inboard to release the grommet from the plenum and remove the windshield wiper system module (2) from the vehicle.

    Plenum Front Panel Nut(1) - Remove[3x]

  107. Disconnect the electrical connector.
  108. Pull the forward lamp wiring harness extension (3) out from the plenum front panel.

    Rear Brake Pipe Nut(1) - Remove[2x]

  119. Front Brake Pipe Nut(2) - Remove[2x]
  120. Cap the 4 brake pipe inlets to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.

    Depress the brake pedal retainer (1) locking tabs.

  122. Pull the brake pedal (2) outwards to release it from the brake pedal retainer (1).
  123. Remove and DISCARD the brake pedal retainer (1).

  127. Disengage the battery positive cables (1) from the harness retainer channel.

    Fuse Block Cover(2) - Remove

  129. Auxiliary Generator Battery Jumper Cable Nut(3) - Remove
  130. Auxiliary Generator Battery Jumper Cable(4) - Reposition away

    Unfasten the engine harness (1) from the air conditioning refrigerant heat exchanger bracket, and position out of the way.

  134. Unfasten the auxiliary generator battery jumper cable (2) from the lower air conditioning refrigerant heat exchanger bracket stud, and position away.

    Air Conditioning Evaporator Tube Clip Bracket Bolt(4) - Remove

  137. Air Conditioning Refrigerant Heat Exchanger(2) - Reposition
  138. Disconnect electrical connector at left kick panel as necessary.

    Disengage the harness grommet (1) at the dash panel and feed the battery positive cables (2) into the passenger compartment.

  140. Remove the battery positive cables.
