Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2022 Cadillac CT4. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Clean all sealing surfaces.
  2. GM4998009
    NOTE:
    • Ensure proper use of room temperature vulcanizing (RTV) sealant. Use of Room Temperature Vulcanizing (RTV) and Anaerobic Sealant
    • The engine front lower cover sealing surface must be free of contamination prior to applying the sealer.
    • Install and align the engine front lower cover to engine block within 10 minutes of applying the sealer.
    • The engine front lower cover must be fastened to final torque specification within 15 minutes of applying the sealer.

    Apply approximately a 4 mm (0.16 in) thick bead of sealant (1) to the engine front cover. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers

    Install EN-52440  Crankshaft Oil Seal Ring Guide Front (2) to the crankshaft.

  4. Install the engine front cover (1) backwards using the 2 tabs to size the seal.

    Remove the engine front cover (1) after seal is sized.

  6. Install - EN-52483  Guide Pins (2)
  7. Engine Front Cover (1) - Install
  8. EN-52440  Crankshaft Oil Seal Ring Guide Front - Remove (3)

    Remove the EN-52483  Guide Pins (2).

  10. Engine Front Cover Bolt (1) - Install and hand tighten [9x]
  11. CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution

  12. Engine Front Cover Bolt (1) - Tighten in sequence [9x] - Fastener Specifications

    Crankshaft Balancer (2) - Install

  14. Crankshaft Balancer Bolt (1) - Install NEW and tighten - Fastener Specifications
  15. Raise and support the vehicle. Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle

    NOTE:

    The timing pin (3) is installed into the flexplate for engine timing procedures, it can be damaged if torque is applied to the flexplate with the timing pin engaged. The timing pin must be placed in the retracted position using the handle (1) and twisting to locked position. The slide part (4) to be installed to the flex plate when torque is applied to the flexplate or crankshaft balancer bolt.

    EN-52476  Flywheel Lock and Alignment Tool (2) - Remove

    Starter (3) - Install

  18. Starter Bolt (2) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
  19. Starter Stud (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications

    Auxiliary Generator Battery Jumper Cable (2) - Install

  21. Battery Positive Cable Nut (1) @ Starter Solenoid - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications

    Electrical Connector (1) - Connect

    Auxiliary Generator Battery Jumper Cable (3) - Install

  24. Battery Negative Cable Nut (1) @ Starter Stud - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
  25. Engine Wiring Harness Retainer (2) - Engage [2x]
  26. Lower the vehicle.

    Accessory Drive Primary Belt (1) - Install

    Use a suitable tool to rotate the drive belt tensioner (1) counterclockwise and hold.

  29. Slowly release tension on the drive belt tensioner.

    Oil Level Indicator Tube Seal (2) - Install NEW

  31. Oil Level Indicator Tube (1) - Install

    Oil Level Indicator Tube Bracket Bolt (2) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications

  33. Electrical Connector (1) @ Oil Level Indicator (3) - Clip

  35. Oil Level Indicator (1) - Install

    Intake Manifold Cover (1) @ Upper Intake Manifold Bracket (2) - Install

  37. GM5335087
    NOTE:

    Ensure the engine sight shield retainers fully engage the intake manifold cover studs.

    Push down on the front of the intake manifold cover (1) engaging the intake manifold cover retainers to the intake manifold cover studs.

  38. Install the oil fill cap.
  39. Connect the battery. Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
