Installation Procedure

  1. GM5467482

    Differential Carrier Assembly (1) - Install

    Differential Carrier Front Bolt (1) - Install [2x]

  3. CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

  4. Differential Carrier Nut (2) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications

    Differential Carrier Rear Bolt (1) - Install NEW and tighten - Fastener Specifications

  6. Remove the jack from under the differential carrier assembly.

    Position the rear wheel drive shaft (1) onto the rear axle shaft.

    NOTE:

    The rear wheel drive shaft universal joint retainer (1) and washers (2) are serviced as a rear wheel drive shaft universal joint retainer kit consisting of 2 bolts and 1 washer.

    If NEW threaded components are being installed, loosen the adhesive using a metal pick or similar tool before proceeding. If threaded components are reused, prepare the threaded components using the following steps:

    1. Remove any loose cured adhesive from the external threads of the components using a lint free cloth.
    2. Thread the cleaned components into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive.
    3. Remove loose debris from internal and external threads using compressed air.
    4. Apply liquid thread locking adhesive in a strip along half of the length of the external threads, starting at the tip, just prior to installation. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
  9. Install 3 NEW wheel drive shaft washers (2).
  10. Install and tighten the 6 NEW rear wheel drive shaft universal joint retainers (1) in a crisscross pattern. Fastener Specifications

    Position the rear wheel drive shaft (1) onto the rear axle shaft.

    NOTE:

    The rear wheel drive shaft universal joint retainer (1) and washers (2) are serviced as a rear wheel drive shaft universal joint retainer kit consisting of 2 bolts and 1 washer.

  13. Install 3 NEW wheel drive shaft washers (2).
  14. Install and tighten the 6 NEW rear wheel drive shaft universal joint retainers (1) in a crisscross pattern. Fastener Specifications

    Apply a thin layer of grease to the transmission output shaft splines (1). Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers

  16. Loosely install a NEW propeller shaft hub clamp (3) to the propeller shaft joint boot.
  17. Support and secure the propeller shaft (2) to a suitable hydraulic jack stand.

    If NEW threaded components are being installed, loosen the adhesive using a metal pick or similar tool before proceeding. If threaded components are reused, prepare the threaded components using the following steps:

    1. Remove any loose cured adhesive from the external threads of the components using a lint free cloth.
    2. Thread the cleaned components into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive.
    3. Remove loose debris from internal and external threads using compressed air.

  20. Propeller Shaft Bearing Support Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
  21. Remove the hydraulic jack stand supporting the propeller shaft.

    If NEW threaded components are being installed, loosen the adhesive using a metal pick or similar tool before proceeding. If threaded components are reused, prepare the threaded components using the following steps:

    1. Remove any loose cured adhesive from the external threads of the components using a lint free cloth.
    2. Thread the cleaned components into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive.
    3. Remove loose debris from internal and external threads using compressed air.
    4. Apply liquid thread locking adhesive in a strip along half of the length of the external threads, starting at the tip, just prior to installation. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
  23. Align the relationship marks (2) made on the propeller shaft and the rear differential flange.
  24. Rear Propeller Shaft Bolt (1) - Install [3x]
  25. Rear Propeller Shaft Nut (3) - Loosely install [3x]
  26. Rear Propeller Shaft Bolt (1) - Tighten [3x] - Fastener Specifications

    Ensure that the drive shaft boot is completely seated in the output shaft groove prior to crimping the propeller shaft hub clamp (2).

  28. Using the DT-35910  Drive Axle Seal Clamp Pliers (1), crimp the propeller shaft hub clamp (2) until the final crimped outer diameter (a) is 39 - 41 mm (1.54 - 1.61 in).

    Transmission Mount (2) - Install

  30. NOTE:

    For proper bolt alignment, loosely install all mount bolts prior to tightening to specifications.

    Floor Panel Number 2 Cross Bar Reinforcement (1) - Install

  36. Floor Panel Number 2 Cross Bar Reinforcement Bolt (2) - Install and tighten [4x] - Fastener Specifications

    Exhaust Intermediate Underbody Heat Shield (2) - Install

  38. Exhaust Heat Shield Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [6x] - Fastener Specifications

    With the aid of an assistant, install the exhaust system to the vehicle.

    Catalytic Converter Gasket (2) - Install NEW

  40. Exhaust Muffler (1) - Install

  42. Exhaust Muffler (1) @ Exhaust Intermediate Pipe Insulator-Right Side (2) - Install

    Catalytic Converter Nut (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications

    Floor Panel Reinforcement (1) - Install

    Underbody Rear Air Deflector- Right Side (5) - Install

  49. Underbody Rear Air Deflector Plastic Nut (3) - Install and tighten [3x] - Fastener Specifications
  50. Underbody Rear Air Deflector Bolt (2) - Install and tighten [3x] - Fastener Specifications
  51. Underbody Rear Air Deflector Nut (4) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
  52. Rear Wheelhouse Liner Screw (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications

    Rear Tire Front Air Deflector- Right Side (1) - Install

  54. Rear Tire Front Air Deflector Bolt (2) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications

    Underbody Rear Air Deflector- Left Side (5) - Install

  56. Underbody Rear Air Deflector Plastic Nut (2) - Install and tighten [3x] - Fastener Specifications
  57. Underbody Rear Air Deflector Bolt (3) - Install and tighten [3x] - Fastener Specifications
  58. Underbody Rear Air Deflector Nut (4) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
  59. Rear Wheelhouse Liner Screw (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications

    Rear Tire Front Air Deflector- Left Side (2) - Install

  61. Rear Tire Front Air Deflector Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications

    Differential Carrier Drain Plug (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications

  63. Fill the differential carrier with axle lubricant.
  64. Check the differential fluid level. It should be even with the bottom of the fill plug hole to no lower than 2 mm (0.08 in) below the opening.

    Differential Carrier Fill Plug (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications

  66. Remove the drain pan.
  67. Inspect the exhaust system for leaks.
  68. Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
