Circuit/System Verification

  1. Ignition - On / Vehicle - In Service Mode
  2. Verify DTC P31D2, P31D6, P31E0, P31E4 is not set.
    • If any of the DTCs are set 

      Replace the appropriate component:

    • {Right Side} M106S Exhaust Control Valve Actuator - Sound Quality
    • {Left Side} M106SB Exhaust Control Valve 2 Actuator - Sound Quality
    • Go to next step: If none of the DTCs are set 
  3. Verify DTC P31D3, P31D4, P31D5, P31E1, P31E2, P31E3 is not set.
    • If any of the DTCs are set 
    1. Perform the following learn procedure: Exhaust Control Valve Learn  @ K20 Engine Control Module
    2. Ignition/Vehicle & All vehicle systems - Off - For 2 min
    3. Ignition - On / Vehicle - In Service Mode
    4. Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC.

      Verify the DTC does not set.

      • If the DTC sets - Refer to: Circuit/System Testing - Test 2
      • Go to next step: If the DTC does not set
    5. All OK.
    • Go to next step: If none of the DTCs are set 
  4. Verify DTC P31D9, P31DA, P31DB, P31DC, P31E7, P31E8 is not set.
    • If any of the DTCs are set 

      Refer to: Circuit/System Testing - Test 2

    • Go to next step: If none of the DTCs are set 
  5. Perform the scan tool control function: Exhaust Control Valve Position @ K20 Engine Control Module - Open/Close

    Verify a click can be heard or felt at the following component (s) when the scan tool control function was commanded:

    • {Right Side} M106S Exhaust Control Valve Actuator - Sound Quality
    • {Left Side} M106SB Exhaust Control Valve 2 Actuator - Sound Quality
    • If a click cannot be heard or felt 

      Refer to: Circuit/System Testing - Test 1

    • Go to next step: If a click can be heard or felt 
  6. Perform the scan tool control function: Exhaust Control Valve Position @ K20 Engine Control Module - Close

    Verify a condition does not exist with the component:

    • {Right Side} M106S Exhaust Control Valve Actuator - Sound Quality - Turns Off
    • {Left Side} M106SB Exhaust Control Valve 2 Actuator - Sound Quality - Turns Off
    • Perform the action while monitoring the component:
    • {Right Side} Wiggle the harness and connector: M106S Exhaust Control Valve Actuator - Sound Quality
    • {Left Side} Wiggle the harness and connector: M106SB Exhaust Control Valve 2 Actuator - Sound Quality
    • Wiggle the harness and connector: K111 Fuel Pump Power Control Module
    • If a condition exists 

      Repair as necessary - Wiring / Terminal (s) / Electrical Connector (s)

    • Go to next step: If no condition exists 
  7. Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC. You may also operate the vehicle within the conditions that you observed from the Freeze Frame/Failure Records data.

    Verify the DTC does not set.

    • If the DTC sets 

      Repeat the procedure starting at step 2

    • Go to next step: If the DTC is not set 
  8. All OK.
