Circuit/System Testing
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2022 Cadillac CT5. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- It may take up to 2 min for all vehicle systems to power down before an accurate ground or low reference circuit continuity test can be performed.
- This diagnostic procedure will reference the component code called out in the schematic, if applicable. The following are the same components, even though they are named differently:
- Q6 Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve = Camshaft Position Actuator Magnet
- Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve = Camshaft Oil Control Spool Valve
- Ignition/Vehicle & All vehicle systems - Off
- Disconnect the electrical connector: Q6 Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve
- Test for less than 10 ohms between the test points: Low Reference circuit terminal 1/A & Ground
- If 10 ohms or greater
- Disconnect the appropriate electrical connector: K20 Engine Control Module
- Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points: Low Reference circuit terminal 1/A@Component harness & The other end of the circuit@Control module harness
- If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
- If less than 2 ohms - Replace the component: K20 Engine Control Module
- Go to next step: If less than 10 ohms
- Ignition - On/Vehicle - In Service Mode
- Perform the scan tool control function: Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve - Off
Verify a test lamp does not turn On between the test points: Control circuit terminal 2/B & Ground
- If the test lamp turns On
- Ignition/Vehicle - Off & Remove - Test lamp
- Disconnect the appropriate electrical connector: K20 Engine Control Module
- Ignition - On/Vehicle - In Service Mode
- Test for less than 1 V between the test points: Control circuit terminal 2/B@Component harness & The other end of the circuit@Control module harness
- If 1 V or greater - Repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
- If less than 1 V - Replace the component: K20 Engine Control Module
- Go to next step: If the test lamp does not turn On
- Remove - Test Lamp
- Perform the scan tool control function: Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve - On
Verify the scan tool parameter: Intake/Single Camshaft Position Actuator Control Circuit Low Test Status = Not Run or Okay
- If not the specified state
- Ignition/Vehicle - Off
- Disconnect the appropriate electrical connector: K20 Engine Control Module
- Test for infinite resistance between the test points: Control circuit terminal 2/B@Component harness & Ground
- If less than infinite resistance - Repair the short to ground on the circuit.
- If infinite resistance - Replace the component: K20 Engine Control Module
- Go to next step: If the specified state
- Connect a 3 A fused jumper wire between the test points: Control circuit terminal 2/B & Ground
- Perform the scan tool control function: Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve - On
Verify the scan tool parameter: Intake/Single Camshaft Position Actuator Control Circuit Low Test Status = Malfunction
- If not the specified state
- Ignition/Vehicle - Off & Remove - Jumper wire(s)
- Disconnect the appropriate electrical connector: K20 Engine Control Module
- Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points: Control circuit terminal 2/B@Component harness & The other end of the circuit@Control module harness
- If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
- If less than 2 ohms - Replace the component: K20 Engine Control Module
- Go to next step: If the specified state
- Verify DTC P0011 is not set.
- If the DTC is set
- Ignition/Vehicle - Off
- Verify a condition does not exist with the component: Q6 Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve - Refer to: Cleaning and Inspection Procedure @ Camshaft Position Actuator Magnet Replacement
- If a condition exists - Repair or replace as necessary
- Go to next step: If no condition exists
- Verify a condition does not exist with the component: Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve - Refer to: Cleaning and Inspection Procedure @ Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve Replacement
- If a condition exists - Repair or replace as necessary
- Go to next step: If no condition exists
- Verify a condition does not exist with the component: Camshaft Position Actuator - Refer to: Cleaning and Inspection Procedure @ Timing Chain, Crankshaft Sprocket, Camshaft Position Actuator, and Solenoid Valve Replacement
- If a condition exists - Repair or replace as necessary
- Go to next step: If no condition exists
- Replace the component: Camshaft Position Actuator & Camshaft Oil Control Spool Valve
- Go to next step: If the DTC is not set
- Test or replace the component: Q6 Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve
