Inspection Procedure

- CAUTION:
Refer to Valve Lifter Priming Caution .
Inspect the hydraulic lash adjuster (HLA) (4) in the following areas:
- A plugged oil passage (1)
- A scored or worn camshaft follower pivot area (2)
- A damaged or broken retainer (3), some applications
- A severely scuffed or worn HLA body (4)
Inspect the valve rocker arm roller (1) for the following:
- Flat spots
- Excessive scoring and pitting
- Ensure the roller spins freely
- Inspect the valve rocker arm tip area (2).
- Inspect the valve rocker arm retaining clip (3).
- Inspect the valve rocker arm hydraulic lash adjuster (HLA) pivot area (4).
