Installation Procedure

    NOTE:

    Lubricate under the washer surface.

    Lubricate the camshaft sprocket bolts (1) with clean engine oil where indicated. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers

    NOTE:

    Replace the one camshaft sprocket bolt that is required.

    Camshaft Sprocket Bolt (1) - Install NEW and hand tighten

    EN-52436  Timing Chain Tensioner Retention Tool (1) @ Timing Chain (2) - Remove

    Take tension off the actuator that is required for the specific camshaft sprocket bolt that is being replaced and to loosen the tension of the timing chain.

      NOTE:

      Only do the side that is being replaced.

    1. Turn the exhaust side counter clockwise to 6 N.m (53 lb in) and tighten bolt (3) just enough to hold the EN-52461-1  Holder in place.
    2. Turn the intake side counter clockwise to 6 N.m (53 lb in) and tighten bolt (2) just enough to hold the EN-52461-1  Holder in place.
  5. Intake Camshaft Sprocket Bolt (2) - Tighten
    1. First Pass: 50 N.m (37 lb ft)
    2. Final Pass: 28 degrees, use the EN-45059  Angle Meter
  6. Exhaust Camshaft Sprocket Bolt (2) - Tighten
    1. First Pass: 50 N.m (37 lb ft)
    2. Final Pass: 28 degrees, use the EN-45059  Angle Meter

    Bolt (1, 2) - Loosen

  8. Slide the 2 EN-52461-1  Holder (3) out of the camshaft sprockets.

    Loosen the 2 bolts (1, 4) of EN-52461-100  Adapter Cam Phaser Torque Reaction Tool (5).

  10. Remove the EN-52461  Cam Phaser Torque Reaction Tool (5) along with the 2 EN-52461-100  Adapter Cam Phaser Torque Reaction Tool (2, 3) from the engine.

    Remove the EN-52462-A  Camshaft Tool (1) by rotating the levers in direction of arrows.

    Loosen and disengage the bolt (2) from EN-52462-A  Camshaft Alignment Tool (1).

    Clean and apply sealant to the camshaft cover opening plug (1) [2x]. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers

  15. Camshaft Cover Opening Plug (1) - Install and tighten [2x] 20 N.m (15 lb ft)

    Engine Wiring Harness (1) @ Camshaft Carrier - Install

  17. Clean all sealing surfaces.
  18. Ensure proper use of room temperature vulcanizing (RTV) sealant. Use of Room Temperature Vulcanizing (RTV) and Anaerobic Sealant

    NOTE:
    • The timing chain upper cover sealing surface must be free of contamination prior to applying the sealer.
    • Install and align the timing chain upper cover to engine block within 10 minutes of applying the sealer.
    • The timing chain upper cover must be fastened to final torque specification within 15 minutes of applying the sealer.

    Apply a 5 mm (0.2 in) bead of sealant (2) at the center of the seam between the camshaft housing and the cylinder head on both sides. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers .

  20. Check that the 2 Pins (1) are in the camshaft housing or in the timing chain upper cover.

    Timing Chain Upper Cover Gasket (1) - Install NEW

  22. Timing Chain Upper Cover (2) - Install

    Engine Front Cover Bolt (3) - Install

  24. Timing Belt Upper Cover Bolt (2) - Install [11x]
  25. NOTE:

    Refer to the procedure link for torque specification.

  26. Tighten the engine front cover bolt (3) and, Timing belt upper cover bolts (2) [11x] in sequence. Timing Chain Upper Cover Replacement

    Camshaft Position Actuator Magnet Gasket (2) - Install NEW [2x]

  28. Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve Solenoid (1, 3) - Install [2x]
  29. CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

  30. Camshaft Position Actuator Valve Solenoid Bolt (4) - Install and tighten [4x] 8.5 N.m (75 lb in)

    Engine Wiring Harness (3) - Reposition

  32. Retainer (1) @ Timing Chain Upper Cover (2) - Engage [6x]
  33. Connect the 2 electrical connectors to the camshaft position actuator valve solenoids.

    Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Tube (2) - Install

  35. Connect the quick disconnects (1) and install the 2 retainers (3). Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service
  36. Raise and support the vehicle. Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle

    NOTE:

    The timing pin (3) is installed into the flexplate for engine timing procedures, it can be damaged if torque is applied to the flexplate with the timing pin engaged. The timing pin must be placed in the retracted position using the handle (1) and twisting to locked position. The slide part (4) to be installed to the flex plate when torque is applied to the flexplate or crankshaft balancer bolt.

    EN-52476  Flywheel Lock and Alignment Tool (2) - Remove

    Intake Manifold Cover (1) @ Upper Intake Manifold Bracket (2) - Install

    NOTE:

    Ensure the engine sight shield retainers fully engage the intake manifold cover studs.

    Push down on the front of the intake manifold cover (1).

  41. Install the oil fill cap.
  42. Connect the battery. Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
