Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2022 Cadillac CT5. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION:

Electrostatic discharge (ESD) can damage many solid-state electrical components. ESD susceptible components may or may not be labeled with the ESD symbol. Handle all electrical components carefully. Use the following precautions in order to avoid ESD damage:

  • Touch a metal ground point in order to remove your body's static charge before servicing any electronic component; especially after sliding across the vehicle seat.
  • Do not touch exposed terminals. Terminals may connect to circuits susceptible the ESD damage.
  • Do not allow tools to contact exposed terminals when servicing connectors.
  • Do not remove components from their protective packaging until required to do so.
  • Avoid the following actions unless required by the diagnostic procedure:
    • Jumpering or grounding of the components or connectors.
    • Connecting test equipment probes to components or connectors. Connect the ground lead first when using test probes.
  • Ground the protective packaging of any component before opening. Do not rest solid-state components on metal workbenches, or on top of TVs, radios, or other electrical devices.
CAUTION:

During removal and installation, all EPS components including mechanical and/or electrical is extremely susceptible to damage. Dropping or prying on any EPS component may cause internal damage. If damage occurs or a part is dropped, the EPS component must be replaced.

CAUTION:

Care must be taken during removal and installation of the Electronic Power Steering (EPS) components to not hit or break the EPS motor/controller module or module harness connectors. If the EPS motor/controller module or module connectors are damaged, the complete component must be replaced.

  1. Install the engine support fixture. Engine Support Fixture
  2. Using a suitable wire or strap secure the air conditioning condenser, engine coolant fan, and the radiator to the left and right side radiator upper brackets.

    Engine Mount Nut - Left Side (1) - Remove

    Turbocharger Heat Shield - Right Side Lower (2) - Remove - Turbocharger Heat Shield Replacement - Right Side Lower (LGY)

    Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod - Left Side and Right Side (1) @ Steering Knuckle - Remove [2x] - Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement (without Blackwing)

    Front Lower Control Rear Link - Left Side and Right Side (1) @ Steering Knuckle - Remove [2x] - Front Lower Control Rear Link Replacement (AWD)

    Stabilizer Shaft Link - Left Side and Right Side (1) @ Stabilizer Shaft - Remove [2x] - Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement (FE2) , or Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement (FE3, FE4)

    Disconnect the electrical connectors (1) at the electric belt drive rack and pinion steering gear.

  17. {If equipped} Disconnect the electrical connectors at the motor mounts.
  18. Remove the wiring harness retainers from the drivetrain and front suspension cradle.

    Heater Water Auxiliary Pump Bracket Nut (1) - Remove [2x] - Auxiliary Water Pump Replacement (AWD with LGY Charge Air Coolant Pump) , or Auxiliary Water Pump Replacement (AWD with LGY Heater Coolant Pump)

    Charge Air Cooler Bracket Nut (1) - Remove [2x] - Auxiliary Water Pump Replacement (AWD with LGY Charge Air Coolant Pump) , or Auxiliary Water Pump Replacement (AWD with LGY Heater Coolant Pump)

  21. Reposition both auxiliary water pumps away from the auxiliary water pump brackets.

    Transmission Fluid Cooler Pipe Bolt (1) - Remove - Transmission Fluid Cooler Inlet and Outlet Pipe Replacement (LGY, AWD)

  23. Reposition the transmission fluid cooler inlet and outlet pipe away from the drivetrain and front suspension cradle.

    Intermediate Steering Shaft (1) @ Steering Gear - Remove - Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement (AWD)

  25. Using a suitable jack/support stand, support the drivetrain and front suspension cradle.
