Installation Procedure

    Rear Wheel Drive Shaft Washer (1) - Install NEW

    Rear Wheel Drive Shaft (1) - Install

    NOTE:

    The rear wheel drive shaft universal joint retainer (2) and washers (1) are serviced as a rear wheel drive shaft universal joint retainer kit consisting of 2 bolts and 1 washer.

    If NEW threaded components are being installed, loosen the adhesive using a metal pick or similar tool before proceeding. If threaded components are reused, prepare the threaded components using the following steps:

    1. Remove any loose cured adhesive from the external threads of the components using a lint free cloth.
    2. Thread the cleaned components into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive.
    3. Apply thread locking adhesive to the external threads of the components.
    4. Apply liquid thread locking adhesive in a strip along half of the length of the external threads, starting at the tip, just prior to installation.
  4. Install 3 NEW wheel drive shaft flange washers (1).
    5. CAUTION:

    This vehicle is equipped with torque-to-yield or single use fasteners. Install a NEW torque-to-yield or single use fastener when installing this component. Failure to replace the torque-to-yield or single use fastener could cause damage to the vehicle or component.

    CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

  5. Install NEW and tighten the 6 rear wheel drive shaft universal joint retainers (2) in a crisscross pattern.
    1. First Pass: 50 N.m (37 lb ft)
    2. Final Pass: 40 - 50 degrees
  6. Have an assistant apply the brakes.

    Rear Wheel Drive Shaft Nut (1) - Install NEW and tighten

    1. First Pass: 150 N.m (111 lb ft)
    2. Second Pass: loosen 45 degrees
    3. Final Pass: 270 N.m (199 lb ft)
  8. Rear Suspension Lower Control Arm Cover - Install - Rear Suspension Lower Control Arm Cover Replacement
  9. Install the right rear tire and wheel assembly. Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (without J57) , or Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (with J57)

    Exhaust Muffler (1) - Install - Exhaust Muffler Replacement (LT4)

  11. Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
