Installation Procedure

    Mid Intermediate Steering Shaft (1) - Install

    Depress the locking pin (1) to install the upper portion of the mid lower intermediate steering shaft to the mid intermediate steering shaft.

  3. If a NEW threaded component is being installed, loosen the adhesive using a metal pick or similar tool before proceeding. If threaded component is reused, prepare the threaded component using the following steps:
    1. Remove any loose cured adhesive from the external threads of the component using a lint free cloth.
    2. Thread the cleaned component into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive.
    3. Remove loose debris from internal and external threads using compressed air.
    4. Apply liquid thread locking adhesive in a strip along half of the length of the external threads, starting at the tip, just prior to installation. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers

    CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

    Mid Lower Intermediate Steering Shaft Bolt (1) - Install and tighten to 36 N.m (27 lb ft)

    Install the mid lower intermediate steering shaft (1) and mid intermediate steering shaft together.

  6. If a NEW threaded component is being installed, loosen the adhesive using a metal pick or similar tool before proceeding. If threaded component is reused, prepare the threaded component using the following steps:
    1. Remove any loose cured adhesive from the external threads of the component using a lint free cloth.
    2. Thread the cleaned component into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive.
    3. Remove loose debris from internal and external threads using compressed air.
    4. Apply liquid thread locking adhesive in a strip along half of the length of the external threads, starting at the tip, just prior to installation. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers

    Mid Intermediate Steering Shaft Bolt (1) - Install and tighten to 36 N.m (27 lb ft)

    Connect the mid lower intermediate steering shaft (1) to the intermediate steering shaft by pushing the lower portion of the mid lower intermediate shaft downward and forward along the axis of the upper portion of the mid lower intermediate steering shaft.

    Ensure the locking pin (1) is fully engaged into the mid lower intermediate steering shaft.

  10. If a NEW threaded component is being installed, loosen the adhesive using a metal pick or similar tool before proceeding. If threaded component is reused, prepare the threaded component using the following steps:
    1. Remove any loose cured adhesive from the external threads of the component using a lint free cloth.
    2. Thread the cleaned component into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive.
    3. Remove loose debris from internal and external threads using compressed air.
    4. Apply liquid thread locking adhesive in a strip along half of the length of the external threads, starting at the tip, just prior to installation. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers

    Mid Lower Intermediate Steering Shaft Bolt (2) - Install and tighten to 36 N.m (27 lb ft)

  12. Remove the device used to prevent steering column rotation.
