Removal Procedure
Refer to SIR Warning .
Following the deployment of a side impact air bag, inspect the following parts for damage. Replace these parts if necessary:
- The seat cushion frame
- The seat recliner, if equipped
- The seat adjuster
- The seat back frame
Failure to do so may cause future personal injury.
- Disable the SIR system. SIR Disabling and Enabling
- NOTE:
Left side shown, right side similar.
With a flat bladed plastic trim tool, start at the front and work your way back to release the clips.
- Instrument Panel Outer Trim Cover (1) - Remove
- { If equipped } Disconnect the electrical connector.
Starting at the rear of the front side door sill garnish molding (1), pull upward at the b-pillar joint to disengage the garnish molding.
- Work your way forward disengaging all the front side door sill garnish molding clips then pull rearward to disengage the clip on the forward vertical wall.
- Front Side Door Sill Garnish Molding (1) - Remove
Rear Seat Cushion (1) - Remove - Rear Seat Cushion Removal and Installation
Fold the rear seat back to the downward position.
- Access the rear seat back bolster retainer lock (1) through a slot in the upper portion of the bolster.
- Slide the rear seat back bolster retainer lock (1) toward the front of the vehicle.
Rear Seat Back Bolster Nut (1) - Remove
- Squeeze the rear seat back bolster retainer to release it.
- Rear Seat Back Bolster (2) - Remove
Use the appropriate plastic trim tool to aid in the removal of the rear side door sill garnish molding.
- Rear Side Door Sill Garnish Molding (1) - Remove
Front Seat Belt Anchor Plate Tensioner Cover (1) - Remove
- Front Seat Belt Anchor Plate Tensioner Bolt- Upper (2) - Remove
Center Pillar Lower Trim Panel (1) - Remove
- NOTE:
Integral sensor assembly bolt uses Left Hand threads. Use counterclockwise rotation to loosen fastener at TORX® tip end. If accessing at pan head end of the fastener, use clockwise rotation to loosen bolt.
Loosen the fastener and slide the sensor out of the keyhole slot.
- The bolts are integral to the sensor, DO NOT remove separately.
- Disconnect the electrical connector.
- Airbag Side Impact Rear Sensor (1) - Remove
- Inflatable Restraint Module Handling and Scrapping
