Removal Procedure

- Set the parking brake in Service Mode.
- Install a scan tool.
- Turn the ignition ON with engine OFF
- Select Electronic Brake Control Module.
- Select Control Functions.
- Select Rear Brake Caliper Piston Retract.
NOTE:Do NOT apply any brake pressure during this step.
- Disconnect the battery negative cable. Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
- Raise and support the vehicle. Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
- Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (without J57)
- {If equipped} Rear Disc Brake Pad Wear Sensor - Remove - Rear Disc Brake Pad Wear Sensor Replacement (JL9, J56)
Disconnect the electronic parking brake actuator electrical connector. (2)
- Retainer (1) - Remove
Rear Brake Hose (2) - Remove@Rear Brake Caliper - Rear Brake Hose Replacement (J56, JL9)
- NOTE:
- DO NOT use any air tools to remove or install the guide pin bolts. Use hand tools ONLY.
- Install an open end wrench to hold the caliper guide pin in line with the brake caliper while removing or installing caliper guide pin bolt. DO NOT allow the open end wrench to come in contact with the brake caliper. Allowing the open end wrench to come in contact with the brake caliper will cause a pulsation when the brakes are applied.
Rear Brake Caliper Guide Pin Bolt (1) - Remove [2x]
Rear Brake Caliper (1) - Remove
- Parking Brake Actuator - Remove - Parking Brake Actuator Replacement (J56, JL9)
- Transfer components as necessary.
