Installation Procedure
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2022 Cadillac CT5. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Apply a small amount of lubricant to the splines of the rear wheel drive shaft flange. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
- Position the rear wheel drive shaft flange on the pinion shaft, ensuring the alignment mark is realigned.
- Using a brass hammer, tap the flange on the drive pinion shaft.
Prepare the differential carrier pinion threads for installation as follows:
- Remove all traces of the adhesive patch from the mating threads using the appropriate tools.
- Clean the threads of the differential drive pinion gear with denatured alcohol or equivalent and allow to dry.
- Apply thread locking adhesive to the differential drive pinion gear threads. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
- Ensure there are no gaps in the thread locking adhesive once applied to the differential dive pinion gear threads.
- Install the NEW rear wheel drive shaft flange nut (1)
- CAUTION:
Refer to Fastener Caution .
Using the DT-45012 Holding Fixture and breaker bar with the proper size socket, tighten the NEW rear wheel drive shaft flange nut until the pinion end play is just taken up.
- Frequently rotate the pinion while tightening the nut to seat the bearings.
- Using and inch-pound torque wrench and tightening in small increments, measure the rotating torque of the pinion until the reading is +/ - 0.1 N.m (8.8 lb in) from the rotational torque measured prior to disassembly.
- Once the specified torque is obtained, rotate the pinion several times to seat the bearings.
- Check the fluid level of the rear drive axle. Rear Axle Lubricant Level Inspection
- Propeller Shaft - Install - Propeller Shaft Replacement (without LT4) , or Propeller Shaft Replacement (with LT4, MJK) , or Propeller Shaft Replacement (with LT4, MHX) , or Propeller Shaft Replacement (AWD)
- Lower the vehicle.
NOTE:
Install the rear wheel drive shaft flange on the drive pinion shaft so that there are 3 to 4 threads showing.
NOTE:
Compare this measurement with the rotating torque recorded during removal.
NOTE:
Recheck the rotating torque and adjust if necessary.
