Removal Procedure

    NOTE:

    The intermediate wheel drive shaft and the front differential carrier are to be removed as an assembly.

  1. Raise the vehicle. Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
  2. Drain the differential assembly. Front Axle Lubricant Replacement 
  3. Lower the drivetrain and front suspension frame assembly. Drivetrain and Front Suspension Cradle Removal and Installation (AWD LSY)
  4. Remove the Warm Up Three-Way Catalytic Converter. Warm Up Three-Way Catalytic Converter Replacement
  5. Remove the front propeller shaft from the differential and position out of the way. Front Axle Propeller Shaft Replacement (LSY)
  6. Remove the right side engine mount bracket. Engine Mount Bracket Replacement - Right Side
  7. Reposition the left front wheel drive shaft. Front Wheel Drive Half Shaft Replacement - Left Side
  8. Reposition the right front wheel drive shaft. Front Wheel Drive Half Shaft Replacement - Right Side
  9. Remove the front wheel drive intermediate shaft housing. Front Wheel Drive Intermediate Shaft Housing Replacement 
  10. Using the engine support fixture, carefully lower the engine assembly enough to allow the front differential carrier assembly to be removed through the right wheel opening.

    Position a transmission jack beneath the front differential carrier.

  12. Firmly secure the front differential carrier to the transmission jack.
  13. Remove the front differential carrier to front oil pan mounting bolts (1 and 2).

    Remove the front differential carrier to rear oil pan mounting bolt (1).

  15. Remove the intermediate wheel drive shaft and the front differential carrier assembly from the oil pan.
  16. Remove the front differential carrier assembly from the vehicle.
