Installation Procedure

  1. GM5334146
    NOTE:

    Clean any debris from guide support.

    Timing Chain Guide (1) - Install

  2. GM5002102

    Bolt (1, 2) - Loosen [2x]

  3. Slide the 2 EN-52461 - 1  Holder (3) out of the camshaft sprockets.
  4. GM5002065

    Loosen the 2 bolts (1, 4) of EN-52461 - 100  Adapter Cam Phaser Torque Reaction Tool (5).

  5. Remove the EN-52461  Cam Phaser Torque Reaction Tool (5) along with the 2 EN-52461 - 100  Adapter Cam Phaser Torque Reaction Tool (2, 3) from the engine.

    Remove the EN-52462 - A  Camshaft Tool (1) by rotating the levers in direction of arrows.

    Loosen and disengage the bolt (2) from EN-52462-A  Camshaft Alignment Tool (1).

    Clean and apply sealant to the camshaft cover opening plugs (1). Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers

  10. CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

  11. Camshaft Cover Opening Plug (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications

    Engine Wiring Harness (2) - Reposition

  13. Retainer (1) - Install [3x]
  14. Clean all sealing surfaces.

    NOTE:
    • The timing chain upper cover sealing surface must be free of contamination prior to applying the sealer.
    • Install and align the timing chain upper cover to engine block within 10 minutes of applying the sealer.
    • The timing chain upper cover must be fastened to final torque specification within 15 minutes of applying the sealer.
    • Ensure proper use of room temperature vulcanizing (RTV) sealant. Use of Room Temperature Vulcanizing (RTV) and Anaerobic Sealant

    Apply approximately a 5 mm (0.2 in) thick bead of sealant (2) on both sides between the camshaft housing and the cylinder head. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers .

  16. Check that the 2 Pins (1) are in the camshaft housing or in the timing chain upper cover.

    Timing Belt Front Upper Cover Seal (1) - Install NEW

  18. Timing Chain Upper Cover (2) - Install

    Timing Chain Upper Cover BoltM6 (3) - Install and tighten in sequence - Fastener Specifications

  20. Timing Chain Upper Cover Bolt M5 (2) - Install and tighten in sequence [11x] - Fastener Specifications [11x]

    Camshaft Position Actuator Magnet Gasket (3) - Install NEW

  22. Camshaft Position Actuator Valve Solenoid (2) - Install
  23. Camshaft Position Actuator Valve Solenoid Bolt (1) - Install [2x] - Fastener Specifications

    Camshaft Position Actuator Magnet Gasket (3) - Install NEW

  25. Camshaft Position Actuator Valve Solenoid (2) - Install
  26. Camshaft Position Actuator Valve Solenoid Bolt (1) - Install [2x] - Fastener Specifications

    Engine Wiring Harness (3) - Reposition

  28. Retainer (1) @ Timing Chain Upper Cover (2) - Engage [6x]
  29. Connect the 2 electrical connectors to the camshaft position actuator valve solenoids.

    Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Tube (2) - Install

  31. Connect the quick disconnects (1) and install the retainer (3). Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service

    Intake Manifold Cover (1) @ Upper Intake Manifold Bracket (2) - Install

    NOTE:

    Ensure the engine sight shield retainers fully engage the intake manifold cover studs.

    Push down on the front of the intake manifold cover (1).

  34. Fill the engine oil to the proper level with NEW engine oil. Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement (RWD) , or Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement (AWD)
  35. Install the oil fill cap.
  36. Connect the battery. Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
  37. Perform the engine oil life reset. GM Oil Life System Resetting (With Scan Tool) , or GM Oil Life System Resetting (Without Scan Tool)
  38. Check for leaks.
