Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2022 Cadillac CT4. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Disconnect the battery. Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
  2. Drain the cooling system. Cooling System Draining and Filling (LSY GE 47716) , or Cooling System Draining and Filling (LSY Static Fill) , or Cooling System Draining and Filling (LSY with V03 Static Fill) , or Cooling System Draining and Filling (LSY with V03 GE 47716)
  3. Raise and support the vehicle. Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
  4. Drain the engine oil. Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement (RWD) , or Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement (AWD)
  5. Transmission - Remove - Transmission Replacement (Rear Wheel Drive) , or Transmission Replacement (All Wheel Drive)

    NOTE:

    The timing pin is installed into the flexplate for engine timing procedures, it can be damaged if torque is applied to the flexplate with the timing pin engaged. The timing pin must be placed in the retracted position using the handle and twisting to locked position. The slide part to be installed to the flexplate when torque is applied to the flexplate or crankshaft balancer bolt.

    EN-52476  Flywheel Holding Tool (1) - Install

  7. Automatic Transmission Flex Plate Bolt (2) - Loosen [8x]

    Automatic Transmission Flex Plate Bolt (2) - Remove and DISCARD [8x]

  10. Automatic Transmission Flex Plate (1) - Remove

    Disconnect the electrical connector.

  12. Crankshaft Position Sensor Bolt (1) - Remove
  13. Crankshaft Position Sensor (2) - Remove

    CAUTION:

    Do not allow the crankshaft position sensor reluctor ring to come into contact with external magnetic fields or sharp metal objects. Do not drop the crankshaft position sensor reluctor ring. Do not damage the rubberized encoder track. Failure to follow these precautions may cause damage to the component.

    Crankshaft Position Sensor Inner Exciter Ring (1) - Remove

  15. Flywheel Locating Pin (2) - Remove

    Lower Oil Pan Bolt (1) - Remove [18x]

  17. NOTE:
    1. Do not pry on the oil pan to LCE as the sealing surface will become damaged.
    2. Use the lower oil pan bolts in the provided jack screw (threaded inserts) in the oil pan. Tighten the jack screw by hand 1 to 2 turn each uniformly and move to the next screw until the oil pan has full separation from the LCE.
  18. Lower Oil Pan (2) - Remove

    Install the EN-52441  Balance Shaft Timing Tool (1) through the hole in the oil pump. Use a suitable strap to hold in place.

    Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal Housing Bolt (1) - Remove [13x]

  21. NOTE:

    It is likely you will bend the housing during removal. Use care to not damage the engine block.

  22. Loosen the crankshaft rear oil seal housing carefully from the engine block, use a suitable tool to pry all the way around.

    Compress the balance chain tensioner (1) by pushing in the direction of the arrow.

    Balancer Chain Tensioner Bolt (2) - Remove [2x]

  27. Balancer Chain Tensioner (1) - Remove

    If the balancer chain tensioner (1) needs to be assembled, install the retaining spring (3) and the plunger (2), then install the EN-955-A  Locking Pin to reset the tensioner.

    Balance Chain Guide Bolt (1) - Remove [2x]

  30. Balancer Chain Guide (2) - Remove

    Hold on the balance shaft sprocket (1) with a suitable wrench to loose the balance shaft sprocket bolt (2).

  32. Balance Shaft Sprocket Bolt (2) - Remove and DISCARD
