Installation Procedure

  1. GM5906817
    NOTE:

    Apply a 3 mm (0.118 in) bead of RTV sealant around the perimeter of the NEW crankshaft rear oil seal housing (1). Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers

  2. GM5906852

    Install the EN-47839  Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal Installation Tool (1) onto the rear of the crankshaft flange.

  3. NOTE:

    Do NOT allow any engine oil on the area where the crankshaft rear oil seal housing is to be installed.

  4. Install the NEW crankshaft rear oil seal housing (2) to the engine block.

    Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal Housing Bolt (1) - Install and hand tighten [5x]

  6. Oil Pan Bolt (2) - Install and hand tighten [2x]

    Remove the EN-47839  Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal Installation Tool (1) from the crankshaft flange.

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

    Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal Housing Bolt - Tighten in sequence [5x] - Fastener Specifications

  9. Oil Pan Bolt (2) - Tighten in sequence [2x] - Fastener Specifications

    The splined portion of the driven plate protrudes out of the plate more on one side than the other. The side that protrudes out more is the transmission side. The arrow in the graphic indicates the front of the vehicle, or flywheel side of the driven plate.

  11. If NEW threaded components are being installed, loosen the adhesive using a metal pick or similar tool before proceeding. If threaded components are reused, prepare the threaded components using the following steps:
    1. Remove any loose cured adhesive from the external threads of the components using a lint free cloth.
    2. Thread the cleaned components into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive.
    3. Apply thread locking adhesive to the external threads of the components. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
    4. Ensure there are no gaps in the thread locking adhesive once applied to the component.

    Install the driven plate (3) to the flywheel.

  13. Install the clutch pressure plate (2) to the dowel pins on the flywheel.

    Clutch Pressure Plate Bolt (1) - Install NEW and hand tighten [6x]

    Ensure all three dowel pins (1) are visibly seated through the clutch cover dowel pin alignment holes as shown.

  16. Use a commercially available universal clutch alignment tool to align the clutch driven plate to the center of the engine crankshaft.

    Clutch Pressure Plate Bolt (1) - Tighten in sequence [6x] - Fastener Specifications

  18. Remove the commercially available clutch alignment tool.
  19. Install the manual transmission to the vehicle. Manual Transmission Removal and Installation
  20. Perform the excessive clutch slip data reset. Excessive Clutch Slip Data Reset
