A crankshaft balancer hub seal surface (2) with excessive scoring, grooves, rust or other damage must be replaced.

  4. Inspect the crankshaft balancer for the following:
    1. Worn or damaged hub-to-crankshaft surface (1)
    2. Worn, grooved or damaged hub seal surface (2)
    3. Worn, chunking or deteriorated rubber between the hub and pulley (3)
    4. Damaged drive belt ribs (4)
    5. Damaged webs (5)
  5. If any of the above conditions exist, replace the crankshaft balancer.
  6. GM5896859

Clean the crankshaft sprocket (1) in solvent.

  7. Dry the crankshaft sprocket with compressed air.
  8. Inspect the crankshaft sprocket for grooves, excessive wear, or chipping.
  9. Inspect the crankshaft sprocket for damage to the teeth (2)
  10. If any of the above conditions exist, replace the crankshaft sprocket.
  11. GM5064714

Clean the fuel injection fuel rail passages and connection ports of dirt, debris or blockage.

  12. Clean the fuel injection fuel rail (1) in solvent.
  13. Dry the fuel injection fuel rail with compressed air.
  14. Inspect the fuel injection fuel rail for the following conditions:
    1. Damage, debris or restrictions to the fuel rail
    2. Damage, debris or restrictions to the fuel injector ports
    3. Damage to the bolt holes
    4. Damage to the threads on the feed pipe bore
    5. Damage to the threads in the fuel pressure sensor bore
  15. If any of the above conditions exist, replace the fuel injection fuel rail.
  16. GM2918356
    NOTE:

The fuel injector seals must fit properly in the relative groove. Overlapping of the fuel injector seals with the external surface of the injector must be avoided. Avoid handling the injector tip seals as much as possible to avoid damage.

Check both of the fuel injector combustion seals on each fuel injector for correct seat:

    • The seal must not be too large, buckled, or corrugated (1)
    • The seal must be fixed tight and accurate (2)
