Installation Procedure
- Clean all sealing surfaces.
- CAUTION:
Refer to Component Fastener Tightening Caution .
Engine Oil Temperature Sensor (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
- NOTE:
- The engine block surface must be free of contamination prior to applying the sealer.
- Install and align the lower crankcase extension to the block within 10 minutes of applying the sealer.
- Ensure proper use of room temperature vulcanizing (RTV) sealant. Use of Room Temperature Vulcanizing (RTV) and Anaerobic Sealant
Apply approximately a 4 mm (0.16 in) thick bead of sealant (2, 3) to the lower crankcase extension. Finally apply a 12 mm dab of sealant at the locations indicated (1). Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
Lower Crankcase Extension (1) - Install
- CAUTION:
Refer to Fastener Caution .
NOTE:Take note that there are different bolt lengths.
Lower Crankcase Extension Bolt (1, 2, 3) - Install and hand tighten [3x]
- NOTE:
Take note that there are different bolt lengths.
Lower Crankcase Extension Bolt (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) - Install and hand tighten [15x]
- Lower Crankcase Extension Bolt - Tighten in sequence [18x] - Fastener Specifications
- NOTE:
Tilt the balancer shaft access hole plate to install through the access hole, then rotate it clockwise until it stops.
Balancer Shaft Access Hole Plate (3) - Install
- Balancer Shaft Access Hole Washer (2) - Install
- Balancer Shaft Access Hole Nut (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
Oil Filter Bypass Valve (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
Oil Pump Suction Pipe Gasket (3) - Install NEW
- Oil Pump Screen (2) - Install
- Oil Pump Screen Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
- CAUTION:
This vehicle is equipped with torque-to-yield or single use fasteners. Install a NEW torque-to-yield or single use fastener when installing this component. Failure to replace the torque-to-yield or single use fastener could cause damage to the vehicle or component.
NOTE:Only need to install the 2 that are attached to the lower crankcase extension.
Engine Mount Bracket Bolt- Right Side (1) - Install NEW and tighten - Fastener Specifications
- CAUTION:
This vehicle is equipped with torque-to-yield or single use fasteners. Install a NEW torque-to-yield or single use fastener when installing this component. Failure to replace the torque-to-yield or single use fastener could cause damage to the vehicle or component.
Engine Mount Bracket Bolt- Left Side (1) - Install NEW and tighten - Fastener Specifications
- Connect harness connectors and retainers as needed.
Air Conditioning Compressor Bolt (2) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
Ensure the EN-52441 Balance Shaft Timing Tool (1) is through the hole in the oil pump.
Install the balance chain (1) at the balance shaft sprocket (2). Align the white link marked on the balance chain (4) with the balance shaft sprocket mark (3).
Install the balance chain (5) at the crankshaft. Align the blue link marked on the balance chain (2) with the crankshaft mark (1).
- Install the balance shaft sprocket (3) along with the balance chain (5) with the mark at the crankshaft (1).
- Balancer Shaft Sprocket Bolt (4) - Install NEW and tighten - Fastener Specifications
Balancer Chain Guide (2) - Install
- Balance Chain Guide Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
Balancer Chain Tensioner (1) - Install
- Balancer Chain Tensioner Bolt (2) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
EN-955-10-A Locking Pin (2) - Remove
- Clean all sealing surfaces.
Slip the EN-52439-3 Crankshaft Oil Seal Ring Guide Rear (2) through the seal from the outside cover to inside 2 times to shape the seal lip in the NEW crankshaft rear oil seal housing (1).
Install the EN-52439-3 Crankshaft Oil Seal Ring Guide Rear (2) through the seal with the EN-52439-1 Crankshaft Oil Seal Ring Guide Rear (1) to keep the shape of the seal in the NEW crankshaft rear oil seal housing (3).
- NOTE:
- The crankshaft rear oil seal housing surface must be free of contamination prior to applying the sealer.
- Install and align the crankshaft rear oil seal housing to the block within 10 minutes after applying the sealer.
- The crankshaft rear oil seal housing must be fastened to final torque specification within 15 minutes after applying the sealer.
Set the crankshaft rear oil seal housing on the EN-52439-1 Crankshaft Oil Seal Ring Guide Rear (2) and apply approximately a 4 mm (0.16 in) thick bead of sealant (1) to the crankshaft rear oil seal housing. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
EN-52483 Guide Pins (2) - Install
- Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal Housing (1) - Install NEW
- EN-52439-1 Crankshaft Oil Seal Ring Guide Rear (3) - Remove
Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal Housing Bolt (1) - Install and hand tighten [11x]
- EN-52483 Guide Pins (2) - Remove
- Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal Housing Bolt (1) - Install and hand tighten [2x]
- Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal Housing Bolt (1) - Tighten in sequence [13x] - Fastener Specifications
Remove the EN-52441 Balance Shaft Timing Tool (1).
- The LCE surface must be free of contamination prior to applying the sealer.
- Install and align the oil pan to the block within 10 minutes after applying the sealer.
- The oil pan must be fastened to final torque specification within 15 minutes after applying the sealer.
- Ensure proper use of room temperature vulcanizing (RTV) sealant. Use of Room Temperature Vulcanizing (RTV) and Anaerobic Sealant
- Clean all sealing surfaces.
- Spray Low LOC brake cleaner on the LCE sealing surface and wipe off with a clean shop towel. Avoided touching the surface after cleaning and air dry with shop air.
- Wipe the oil pan surface with the adhesion plastic pan primer promoter with a clean shop towel. Allow the cleaner to flash / evaporate. Wipe off the sealing surfaces with a lint free cloth. Do not touch the sealing surface after cleaning to avoid inducing containment debris to the bonding surface area. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
Apply approximately a 4 mm (0.16 in) thick bead of sealant (1) to the lower oil pan. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
Install EN-52483 Guide Pin (1) in two locations to keep oil pan square.
- Lower Oil Pan (2) - Install
- Lower Oil Pan Bolt (3) - Install and tighten in sequence [18x] - Fastener Specifications
- Install wiring harness retainers at lower oil pan.
- CAUTION:
Do not allow the crankshaft position sensor reluctor ring to come into contact with external magnetic fields or sharp metal objects. Do not drop the crankshaft position sensor reluctor ring. Do not damage the rubberized encoder track. Failure to follow these precautions may cause damage to the component.
NOTE:Ensure that the flywheel locating pin (2) sits in the correct holes in the crankshaft and the crankshaft position sensor inner exciter ring.
Flywheel Locating Pin (2) - Install
- Crankshaft Position Sensor Inner Exciter Ring (1) - Install
Crankshaft Position Sensor (2) - Install
- Crankshaft Position Sensor Bolt (1) - Install and tighten Fastener Specifications
- Connect the electrical connector.
- Clean the 8 flex plate bolt hole threads in the crankshaft.
- If NEW threaded components are being installed, loosen the adhesive using a metal pick or similar tool before proceeding. If threaded components are reused, prepare the threaded components using the following steps:
- Remove any loose cured adhesive from the external threads of the components using a lint free cloth.
- Thread the cleaned components into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive.
- Apply thread locking adhesive to the external threads of the components. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
- Ensure there are no gaps in the thread locking adhesive once applied to the component.
- NOTE:
- Check the flex plate for damage before installation.
- Check the guide pin for correct seat in the crankshaft.
Automatic Transmission Flex Plate (1) - Install
- Check that guide pin (2) is in the correct hole of the automatic transmission flex plate.
- Automatic Transmission Flex Plate Bolt (3) - Install NEW and hand tighten [8x]
- NOTE:
The timing pin is installed into the flexplate for engine timing procedures, it can be damaged if torque is applied to the flexplate with the timing pin engaged. The timing pin must be placed in the retracted position using the handle and twisting to locked position. The slide part to be installed to the flexplate when torque is applied to the flexplate or crankshaft balancer bolt.
EN-52476 Flywheel Holding Tool (1) - Install
- Automatic Transmission Flex Plate Bolt (2) - Tighten in sequence [8x] - Fastener Specifications
- EN-52476 Flywheel Holding Tool (1) - Remove
- Transmission - Install - Transmission Replacement (Rear Wheel Drive) , or Transmission Replacement (All Wheel Drive)
Intake Manifold Cover (1) @ Upper Intake Manifold Bracket (2) - Install
- NOTE:
Ensure the engine sight shield retainers fully engage the intake manifold cover studs.
Push down on the front of the intake manifold cover (1).
- Perform the crankshaft position variation learn. Crankshaft Position Variation Learn

Hold on the balance shaft sprocket (3) with a suitable wrench to tighten the balance shaft sprocket bolt (4).
