Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2022 Cadillac CT4. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. GM5897275

    Ensure that the camshaft sealing rings (1) are in place in the camshaft grooves. Camshaft sealing rings must be in place below the surface of the camshaft journal in order to avoid being pinched between the cylinder head and the camshaft caps.

    Apply a liberal amount of lubricant to the camshaft journals and the right cylinder head camshaft carriers. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers

  3. Exhaust Camshaft (1) - Install

    Position the camshaft lobes in a neutral position with the flats on the back of the camshafts up and parallel (1) with the right cylinder head camshaft cover rail.

    Apply a liberal amount of lubricant to the camshaft bearing caps. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers

  7. Camshaft Bearing Cap (2) - Install [3x]
    8. CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

  8. Camshaft Bearing Cap Bolt (1) - Install and tighten in sequence [6x] - Fastener Specifications

    NOTE:

    Ensure the proper camshaft position actuator is installed in the correct position. The dowel pin on the camshaft position actuator must be aligned with the slot in the camshaft nose for reassembly. Failure to install the proper camshaft position actuator can effect engine performance and set an engine code.

    Install the camshaft position actuator (1) by inserting the actuator between the timing chain and front cover. While pushing the actuator into the tensioned side of the chain, tilt the actuator while engaging the chain, aligning the marks on the chain and place the actuator in the fully seated position.

  10. Carefully pry the camshaft forward and move the EN-49982 - 1  Retainers backward via the slot to reengage the position actuator to the camshaft. The dowel pin on the camshaft position actuator must be aligned with the slot in the camshaft nose for reassembly.

    Camshaft Position Actuator Bolt (1) - Install and hand tighten

    Use an opened end wrench on the cast hexagonal portion (1) rotate the camshaft toward the intake camshaft while pulling up on the handle of the EN-49982 - 2  Retainer (2).

  13. Remove the EN-49982 - 2  Retainer (2).

    Camshaft Position Actuator Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications

    Loosen the wingnut (1) to open the clamping area of EN-49982 - 1  Retainer

  16. Loosen the thumbscrew (3) and remove the EN-49982 - 1  Retainer (2).

    Camshaft Bearing Cap (2) - Install

  18. Camshaft Bearing Cap Bolt (1) - Install and hand tighten [4x] - Fastener Specifications

    Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve (2) - Install

  20. Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
  21. Connect the electrical connector.

    Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve (2) - Install

  23. Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
  24. Connect the electrical connector.

    Camshaft Position Sensor (2) - Install

  26. Camshaft Position Sensor Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
  27. Connect the electrical connector.

    Camshaft Position Sensor (2) - Install

  29. Camshaft Position Sensor Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
  30. Connect the electrical connector.

    Apply RTV silicone sealant on the engine front cover split lines (1). The required thickness of the sealing bead is 8 mm (0.3150 in) by 4 mm (0.1575 in). Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers

    Camshaft Cover Seal (2) - Install NEW

    Camshaft Housing Cover Bolt (1) - Install and tighten in sequence [13x] - Fastener Specifications

    Remove the 3 EN-46101  Spark Plug Tube Seal Guides (1).

    Engine Wiring Harness (2) - Install

  37. Engine Wiring Harness Retainer (1) - Install [5x]

    Ignition Coil (2) - Install

  39. Ignition Coil Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
  40. Connect the electrical connectors.

    Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Hose (4) - Install

  42. Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Hose Clip (3) @ Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Pipe Bracket - Connect

    Air Cleaner Outlet Duct (1) - Install

    Retainer Spring (4) - Engage

  45. Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Clamp (3) - Tighten - Fastener Specifications
  46. Charge Air Bypass Valve Hose (2) - Install
  47. Charge Air Bypass Valve Hose Clamp (1) - Tighten - Fastener Specifications

    Install the NEW positive crankcase ventilation foul air tube (2) and secure the 2 positive crankcase ventilation tube connectors (1).

    Lower Intake Manifold Gasket (2) - Install NEW [6x]

    If a NEW threaded component is being installed, loosen the adhesive using a metal pick or similar tool before proceeding. If threaded component is reused, prepare the threaded component using the following steps:

    1. Remove any loose cured adhesive from the external threads of the component using a lint free cloth.
    2. Thread the cleaned component into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive.
    3. Remove loose debris from internal and external threads using compressed air.
    4. Apply liquid thread locking adhesive in a strip along half of the length of the external threads, starting at the tip, just prior to installation. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
  52. Lower Intake Manifold Bolt (1) - Install and tighten in sequence [6x] - Fastener Specifications
  53. Connect all electrical connectors.

    Positive Crankcase Ventilation Foul Air Tube (2) - Install

  55. Positive Crankcase Ventilation Tube Connector (1) - Connect [2x] - Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service

    Charge Air Cooler Cover Bolt (2) - Install and hand tighten [12x]

  65. Charge Air Cooler Bolt (1) - Install and hand tighten [2x]
  66. Charge Air Cooler Bolt (1) & Charge Air Cooler Cover Bolt [2x] - Tighten in sequence [14x] - Fastener Specifications
  67. Connect the electrical connectors.

  77. Charge Air Cooler Coolant Hose Retainer (3) - Engage
  78. Radiator Inlet Hose Clip (Shown Open) (1) - Connect

  98. Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Tube (1) - Connect [2x] - Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service

    Air Cleaner Assembly (2) - Install

  100. Air Cleaner Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
  101. Install all retainers and wiring harnesses to the air cleaner assembly as necessary.
  102. Connect the 2 mass airflow sensor electrical connectors.

    Auxiliary Air Cleaner Outlet Duct (4) - Install

  104. Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Clamp (3) - Tighten - Fastener Specifications
  105. Air Cleaner Outlet Duct (2) - Install
  106. Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Clamp (1) - Tighten - Fastener Specifications

  113. Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Hose Clamp (4) @ Engine Radiator - Engage - Hose Clamp Replacement Guidelines - Spring Type
  114. Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Hose Clip (2) @ Engine Control Module Bracket - Install
  115. Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Hose Clamp (1) @ Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Hose - Engage - Hose Clamp Replacement Guidelines - Spring Type

  117. Intake Manifold Cover (2) - Install
  118. Intake Manifold Cover Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications

  125. Front Suspension Strut Upper Mounting Nut- Left Side (2) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
  126. Front End Sheet Metal Cross Brace Bolt- Left Side (1) - Install and tighten [3x] - Fastener Specifications

  128. Radiator Air Upper Baffle Bolt (2) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
  129. Radiator Air Upper Baffle Retainer (1) - Install [5x]

  131. Fill the charge air cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling (LF4 Static Fill) , or Cooling System Draining and Filling (LF4 GE 47716)
