Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2022 Cadillac CT4. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. GM5897275

    Ensure that the camshaft sealing rings (1) are in place in the camshaft grooves. Camshaft sealing rings must be in place below the surface of the camshaft journal in order to avoid being pinched between the cylinder head and the camshaft caps.

    Apply a liberal amount of lubricant to the camshaft journals and the right cylinder head camshaft carriers. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers

  3. Exhaust Camshaft (1) - Install

    Position the camshaft lobes in a neutral position with the flats on the back of the camshafts up and parallel (1) with the right cylinder head camshaft cover rail.

    Apply a liberal amount of lubricant to the camshaft bearing caps. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers

  6. Camshaft Bearing Cap (2) - Install [4x]
    7. CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

  7. Camshaft Bearing Cap Bolt (1) - Tighten in sequence [8x] - Fastener Specifications

    NOTE:

    Ensure the proper camshaft position actuator is installed in the correct position. The dowel pin on the camshaft position actuator must be aligned with the slot in the camshaft nose for reassembly. Failure to install the proper camshaft position actuator can effect engine performance and set an engine code.

    Install the camshaft position actuator (1) by inserting the actuator between the timing chain and front cover. While pushing the actuator into the tensioned side of the chain, tilt the actuator while engaging the chain, aligning the marks on the chain and place the actuator in the fully seated position.

  9. Carefully pry the camshaft forward and move the to reengage the position actuator to the camshaft. The dowel pin on the camshaft position actuator must be aligned with the slot in the camshaft nose for reassembly.

    Loosen the EN-48313  Timing Chain Retention Tool (1) and remove the EN-48313  Timing Chain Retention Tool (2).

    Camshaft Position Actuator Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications

    Camshaft Bearing Cap (2) - Install

  14. Camshaft Bearing Cap Bolt (1) - Install and hand tighten [4x] - Fastener Specifications

    Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve (2) - Install

  16. Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
  17. Connect the electrical connector.

  20. Connect the electrical connector.

  22. Camshaft Position Sensor Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
  23. Connect the electrical connector.

    Camshaft Position Sensor (2) - Install

  26. Connect the electrical connector.

    Apply RTV silicone sealant on the engine front cover split lines (1). The required thickness of the sealing bead is 8 mm (0.3150 in) by 4 mm (0.1575 in). Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers

    Camshaft Cover Seal (2) - Install NEW

    Camshaft Housing Cover Bolt (1) - Install and tighten in sequence [15x] - Fastener Specifications

    Engine Wiring Harness (3) - Install

  33. Engine Wiring Harness Retainer (2) - Install [10x]
  34. Electrical Connector (1) - Connect

    Ignition Coil (2) - Install

  36. Ignition Coil Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
  37. Connect the electrical connectors.

    Air Cleaner Outlet Resonator Bracket (1) - Install

    Oil Level Indicator Tube (3) - Install

  40. Retainer (2) - Install [2x]
  41. Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Bracket Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications

    Auxiliary Air Cleaner Outlet Duct (1) - Install

    Retainer Spring (3) - Engage

  44. Charge Air Bypass Valve Hose (2) - Install
  45. Charge Air Bypass Valve Hose Clamp (1) - Tighten - Fastener Specifications

    Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Clamp (2) - Tighten - Fastener Specifications

  47. Turbocharger Wastegate Actuator Vacuum Tank Solenoid Valve Tube (1) - Connect - Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service

    Install the NEW positive crankcase ventilation foul air tube (2) and secure the 2 positive crankcase ventilation tube connectors (1).

    Lower Intake Manifold Gasket (2) - Install NEW [6x]

    If a NEW threaded component is being installed, loosen the adhesive using a metal pick or similar tool before proceeding. If threaded component is reused, prepare the threaded component using the following steps:

    1. Remove any loose cured adhesive from the external threads of the component using a lint free cloth.
    2. Thread the cleaned component into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive.
    3. Remove loose debris from internal and external threads using compressed air.
    4. Apply liquid thread locking adhesive in a strip along half of the length of the external threads, starting at the tip, just prior to installation. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
  52. Lower Intake Manifold Bolt (1) - Install and tighten in sequence [6x] - Fastener Specifications
  53. Connect all electrical connectors.

    Positive Crankcase Ventilation Foul Air Tube (2) - Install

  55. Positive Crankcase Ventilation Tube Connector (1) - Connect [2x] - Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service

  65. Charge Air Cooler Bolt (1) - Install and hand tighten [2x]
  66. Charge Air Cooler Bolt (1) & Charge Air Cooler Cover Bolt [2x] - Tighten in sequence [14x] - Fastener Specifications
  67. Connect the electrical connectors.

    Air Cleaner Assembly (2) - Install

  97. Air Cleaner Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
  98. Install all retainers and wiring harnesses to the air cleaner assembly as necessary.
  99. Connect the 2 mass airflow sensor electrical connectors.

  101. Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Clamp (3) - Tighten - Fastener Specifications
  102. Air Cleaner Outlet Duct (2) - Install
  103. Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Clamp (1) - Tighten - Fastener Specifications

    Oil Filler Cap - Remove

  105. Intake Manifold Cover (2) - Install
  106. Intake Manifold Cover Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
  107. Oil Filler Cap - Install

    Front End Sheet Metal Diagonal Brace- Left Side (3) - Install

  109. Front End Sheet Metal Cross Brace Bolt- Left Side (2) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
  110. Front End Sheet Metal Diagonal Brace Nut- Left Side (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications

    Front End Sheet Metal Cross Brace- Left Side (3) - Install

  112. Install the engine wire harness retainers to the front end sheet metal cross brace.
  113. Front Suspension Strut Upper Mounting Nut- Left Side (2) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
  114. Front End Sheet Metal Cross Brace Bolt- Left Side (1) - Install and tighten [3x] - Fastener Specifications

    Radiator Air Upper Baffle (3) - Install

  116. Radiator Air Upper Baffle Bolt (2) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
  117. Radiator Air Upper Baffle Retainer (1) - Install [5x]

    Plenum Front Panel (1) - Install - Plenum Front Panel Removal and Installation (with Blackwing) , or Plenum Front Panel Removal and Installation (without Blackwing)

  119. Fill the charge air cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling (LF4 Static Fill) , or Cooling System Draining and Filling (LF4 GE 47716)
