Removal Procedure
- Drain the engine oil. Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement
- Disconnect the negative battery cable. Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
- Drain the charge air cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling (LF4 Static Fill) , or Cooling System Draining and Filling (LF4 GE 47716)
Plenum Front Panel (1) - Remove - Plenum Front Panel Removal and Installation (with Blackwing) , or Plenum Front Panel Removal and Installation (without Blackwing)
Radiator Air Upper Baffle Retainer (1) - Remove [5x]
- Radiator Air Upper Baffle Bolt (2) - Remove [2x]
- Radiator Air Upper Baffle- Upper (3) - Remove
Remove all wiring harness retainers from the front end sheet metal cross braces.
- Front End Sheet Metal Cross Brace Bolt- Left Side and Right Side (1) - Remove [6x]
- Front Suspension Strut Upper Mounting Nut- Left Side and Right Side (2) - Remove [4x]
- Front End Sheet Metal Cross Brace- Left Side and Right Side (3) - Remove [2x]

Front End Sheet Metal Diagonal Brace Nut- Right Side (1) - Remove
- Front End Sheet Metal Cross Brace Bolt- Right Side (2) - Remove
- Front End Sheet Metal Diagonal Brace- Right Side (3) - Remove
- Place shop cloths beneath the radiator surge tank outlet pipe connection points to absorb any potential coolant spillage.
Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Hose Clamp (1) @ Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Hose - Disengage - Hose Clamp Replacement Guidelines - Spring Type
- Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Hose Clip (2) @ Engine Control Module Bracket - Remove
- Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Hose Clamp (4) @ Engine Radiator - Disengage - Hose Clamp Replacement Guidelines - Spring Type
- Radiator Surge Tank Outlet Pipe (3) - Remove
- Remove the shop cloths from beneath the radiator surge tank outlet pipe.
- CAUTION:
Always turn the ignition off when installing or removing the ECM connectors in order to prevent damage to the components.
CAUTION:- Turn the ignition OFF when installing or removing the control module connectors and disconnecting or reconnecting the power to the control module in order to prevent internal control module damage.
- Control module damage may result when the metal case contacts battery voltage. DO NOT contact the control module metal case with battery voltage when servicing a control module, using battery booster cables, or when charging the vehicle battery.
- In order to prevent any possible electrostatic discharge damage to the control module, do no touch the connector pins or the soldered components on the circuit board.
- Remove any debris from around the control module connector surfaces before servicing the control module. Inspect the control module connector gaskets, and ensure that the gaskets are installed correctly. The gaskets prevent contaminant intrusion into the control module.
Disconnect the electrical connectors.
- Use a suitable tool to release the locking tabs securing the engine control module (1) to the engine control module bracket.
- Engine Control Module (1) - Remove
Engine Control Module Bracket Bolt (1) - Remove [3x]
Use a suitable tool to release the locking tab and remove the transmission control module (1) by sliding it out from the engine control module bracket (2).
- Engine Control Module Bracket (2) - Remove
Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Clamp (1) - Loosen
- Air Cleaner Outlet Duct (2) - Reposition
- Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Clamp (3) - Loosen
- Auxiliary Air Cleaner Outlet Duct (4) - Reposition
Disconnect the 2 mass airflow sensor electrical connectors.
- Remove all retainers from the air cleaner assembly and reposition wiring harnesses as necessary.
- Air Cleaner Bolt (1) - Remove
- Air Cleaner Assembly (2) - Remove
- Oil Filler Cap - Remove
Intake Manifold Cover Bolt (1) - Remove
- Intake Manifold Cover (2) - Remove
- Install the oil filler cap after removal of the intake manifold cover to prevent debris from falling into the engine.
Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Tube (1) - Disconnect [2x] - Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service
- Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Tube (1) - Remove
Disconnect the turbocharger wastegate regulator solenoid valve electrical connector.
- Turbocharger Wastegate Actuator Vacuum Tank Bolt (3) - Remove [2x]
Disconnect the turbocharger wastegate regulator solenoid valve electrical connector.
- Turbocharger Wastegate Actuator Vacuum Tank Bolt (3) - Remove [2x]
Turbocharger Wastegate Actuator Vacuum Tank Solenoid Valve Tube (3) @ Auxiliary Air Cleaner Outlet Duct - Disconnect - Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service
Charge Air Bypass Valve Vacuum Tank Tube (3) - Disconnect - Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service

Disconnect all electrical connectors.

- Lower Intake Manifold Gasket (2) - Remove and DISCARD [6x]
- CAUTION:
The Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) line is tamper resistant and must always be replaced once it is removed. The fittings connected to the PCV line must also be replaced if they are damaged when the PCV line is removed. To reduce the risk of damage to the fittings, use a suitable cutting tool and carefully cut the connections away.
Using a suitable cutting tool, carefully cut the 2 positive crankcase ventilation tube connectors (1).

Turbocharger Wastegate Actuator Vacuum Tank Solenoid Valve Tube (1) - Disconnect and reposition - Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service
- Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Clamp (2) - Loosen
Charge Air Bypass Valve Hose Clamp (1) - Loosen
- Charge Air Bypass Valve Hose (2) - Reposition
- Retainer Spring (3) - Disengage
Auxiliary Air Cleaner Outlet Duct (1) - Remove
Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Bracket Bolt (1) - Remove [2x]
- Retainer (2) - Remove [2x]
- Oil Level Indicator Tube (3) - Reposition
Air Cleaner Outlet Resonator Bracket (1) - Remove
- NOTE:
Replace only the components necessary to complete the repair.
Disconnect the ignition coil electrical connector.

Rotate the oil filler tube (1) counterclockwise and remove from the camshaft cover.
Inspect the oil filter tube seal (2) on the oil filler tube (1) and replace as necessary.
EN-46101 Spark Plug Tube Seal Guides (1) - Install [3x]
- Clean the mating surface of the cylinder head and the camshaft cover.
- CAUTION:

Use a suitable tool to rotate the drive belt tensioner (1) counterclockwise to relieve tension from the accessory drive primary belt (2).
- Remove the accessory drive primary belt (2) from the pulleys and tensioner (1).
- Slowly release tension on the drive belt tensioner (1).
- Clean and inspect the drive belt surfaces of all the pulleys.

- CAUTION:
Do not use the jackscrew hole without first removing all engine front cover bolts. Failure to remove all engine front cover bolts before using the jackscrew hole could result in damage to components.
CAUTION:Do not pry between the engine front cover and the camshaft position sensors or the camshaft position actuators in order to separate the RTV. Use the pry points and a bolt in the jackscrew hole in order to remove the engine front cover. Damage to the camshaft position sensors or the camshaft position actuators may occur if the camshaft position sensors or the camshaft position actuators are used to pry against in order to remove the engine front cover.
Loosely install a 10 x 1.5 mm bolt in the jackscrew hole (1).
- Using the pry points (2) located at the edge of the front cover and the jackscrew, separate the room temperature vulcanizing (RTV) sealant.
Engine Front Cover (1) - Remove
Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve Seal (1) - Remove and DISCARD [4x]
- Using the EN-45000 Seal Remover (2) remove and DISCARD the crankshaft front oil seal (3).
Water Pump Seal (1) - Remove and DISCARD
- NOTE:
Ensure proper use of room temperature vulcanizing (RTV) sealant. Use of Room Temperature Vulcanizing (RTV) and Anaerobic Sealant
Remove any RTV sealant (1) from the engine front cover and mating surface (2) using EN-28410 Gasket Remover (3).
- Clean out debris from the bolt holes (4).
Ensure proper use of room temperature vulcanizing (RTV) sealant. Use of Room Temperature Vulcanizing (RTV) and Anaerobic Sealant
