Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2022 Cadillac CT4. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling (LF4 Static Fill) , or Cooling System Draining and Filling (LF4 GE 47716)
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection

    Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Hose Clamp (1) @ Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Hose - Disengage - Hose Clamp Replacement Guidelines - Spring Type

  4. Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Hose Clip (2) @ Engine Control Module Bracket - Remove
  5. Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Hose Clamp (4) @ Engine Radiator - Disengage - Hose Clamp Replacement Guidelines - Spring Type
  6. Radiator Surge Tank Outlet Pipe (3) - Remove

    CAUTION:

    Always turn the ignition off when installing or removing the ECM connectors in order to prevent damage to the components.

    CAUTION:
    • Turn the ignition OFF when installing or removing the control module connectors and disconnecting or reconnecting the power to the control module in order to prevent internal control module damage.
    • Control module damage may result when the metal case contacts battery voltage. DO NOT contact the control module metal case with battery voltage when servicing a control module, using battery booster cables, or when charging the vehicle battery.
    • In order to prevent any possible electrostatic discharge damage to the control module, do no touch the connector pins or the soldered components on the circuit board.
    • Remove any debris from around the control module connector surfaces before servicing the control module. Inspect the control module connector gaskets, and ensure that the gaskets are installed correctly. The gaskets prevent contaminant intrusion into the control module.

    Disconnect the electrical connectors.

  8. Use a suitable tool to release the locking tabs securing the engine control module to the engine control module bracket.

    Engine Control Module Bracket Bolt (1) - Remove [3x]

    Use a suitable tool to release the locking tab and remove the transmission control module (1) by sliding it out from the engine control module bracket (2).

    Radiator Air Upper Baffle Retainer (1) - Remove [5x]

  14. Radiator Air Upper Baffle Bolt (2) - Remove [2x]
  15. Radiator Air Upper Baffle- Upper (3) - Remove

    Remove all wiring harness retainers from the front end sheet metal cross braces.

  17. Front End Sheet Metal Cross Brace Bolt- Left Side and Right Side (1) - Remove [6x]
  18. Front Suspension Strut Upper Mounting Nut- Left Side and Right Side (2) - Remove [4x]
  19. Front End Sheet Metal Cross Brace- Left Side and Right Side (3) - Remove [2x]

    Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Clamp (1) - Loosen

  21. Air Cleaner Outlet Duct (2) - Reposition
  22. Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Clamp (3) - Loosen
  23. Auxiliary Air Cleaner Outlet Duct (4) - Reposition

    Disconnect the 2 mass airflow sensor electrical connectors.

  25. Remove all retainers from the air cleaner assembly and reposition wiring harnesses as necessary.

  27. Air Cleaner Assembly (2) - Remove

    • Observe the location and routing of the accessory drive primary belt to ensure proper installation.
    • Some components not shown for graphic clarity.

    Use a suitable tool to rotate the drive belt tensioner (1) counterclockwise to relieve tension from the accessory drive primary belt (2).

  29. Remove the accessory drive primary belt (2) from the pulleys and tensioner (1).
  30. Slowly release tension on the drive belt tensioner (1).
  31. Clean and inspect the drive belt surfaces of all the pulleys.

  37. Radiator Outlet Hose (1) @ Engine Radiator - Remove

    Radiator Outlet Hose Clip (1) @ Radiator Outlet Hose Bracket - Remove

  39. Radiator Outlet Hose Clip (2) @ Engine Cooler Fan - Remove

    Front Wheelhouse Liner- Right Side (3) - Remove - Front Wheelhouse Liner Replacement , or Front Wheelhouse Liner Replacement (Blackwing)

    Radiator Outlet Hose Clip (1) @ Charge Air Cooler Bracket - Remove

  42. Using an appropriate tool, disengage the radiator outlet hose retainer (3).

    Front Wheelhouse Liner Bolt- Left Side and Right Side (1) - Remove [6x]

  46. Front Compartment Air Deflector Bolt- Left Side and Right Side (3) - Remove [6x]
  47. Front Wheelhouse Liner Retainer- Left Side and Right Side (2) - Remove [2x]

    Front Compartment Air Deflector- Left Side and Right Side (1) - Remove

    Front Bumper Fascia Air Deflector Bolt (1) - Remove [4x]

  50. Front Bumper Fascia Air Deflector Retainer (2) - Remove
  51. Support the front cradle shear plate using a suitable jack.

    Front Cradle Shear Plate Bolt (1) - Remove [4x]

  53. Front Cradle Shear Plate Nut (2) - Remove [2x]
  54. Front Crossmember Brace Bolt (3) - Remove [8x]

    Front Wheelhouse Liner Bolt (1) - Remove [2x]

    Position the left and right side wheelhouse liners (1) away from the front cradle sheer plate (2).

  57. Remove the front cradle sheer plate (2) from between the front bumper fascia center air deflector and the driveline and front suspension cradle and lower it from the vehicle.

    Assemble the EN-52287  Balancer Holder Kit (1).

    EN-956-1  Extension Handle (1) @ EN-52287  Balancer Holder Kit (2) - Install

    Install the EN-52287  Balancer Holding Kit (1) and the EN-956 - 1  Extension Bar (2) to the crankshaft balancer (3).

    Crankshaft Balancer Bolt (1) - Remove and DISCARD

  62. Remove the EN-52287  Balancer Holding Kit and the EN-956 - 1  Extension Bar.

    Install the J 24420 - C  Harmonic Balancer Puller (1) and the J 38416 - 2  Crankshaft Button (2).

  64. Use tool adjustment to release the crankshaft balancer (3).
  65. Once the crankshaft balancer (3) has released, remove the J 24420 - C  Harmonic Balancer Puller (1) and the J 38416 - 2  Crankshaft Button (2).

    Using a suitable tool, remove and DISCARD the crankshaft front oil seal (1).
