Component Testing

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2022 Cadillac CT4. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Static Test

  1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
  2. Disconnect the electrical connector: Q40 Turbocharger Bypass Valve Solenoid
  3. Test for 20 to 27 ohms between the test points: Control terminal 2 & Ignition terminal 1
    • If not between 20 and 27 ohms 

      Replace the component: Q40 Turbocharger Bypass Valve Solenoid

    • Go to next step: If between 20 and 27 ohms 
  4. Test for infinite resistance between the test points: Each terminal of the component & The component's housing
    • If less than infinite resistance 

      Replace the component: Q40 Turbocharger Bypass Valve Solenoid

    • Go to next step: If infinite resistance 
  5. All OK.

Dynamic Test

  1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
  2. Disconnect the electrical connector: Q40 Turbocharger Bypass Valve Solenoid
  3. Connect a 10 A fused jumper wire between the test points: Ignition terminal 1 & 12 V
  4. CAUTION:

    Complete the testing as quickly as possible in order to prevent overheating and damaging the component.

  5. Momentarily connect a jumper wire between the test points: Control terminal 2 & Ground

    Verify the component produces a clicking sound: Q40 Turbocharger Bypass Valve Solenoid

    • If a click cannot be heard or felt 

      Replace the component: Q40 Turbocharger Bypass Valve Solenoid

    • Go to next step: If a click can be heard or felt 
  6. All OK.
