Removal Procedure

  1. With the wheels of the vehicle in the straight ahead position, LOCK the steering column.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
  3. Remove the front tire and wheel assemblies. Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation

    Remove the 4 chassis harness retainers (1) on the left and right side.

    Front Brake Rotor Cooling Duct Deflector Bolt (2)- Left Side and Right Side - Remove [6x]

  6. Front Brake Rotor Cooling Duct Deflector (1)- Left Side and Right Side - Remove

    Front Wheelhouse Liner Bolt- Left Side and Right Side (1) - Remove [6x]

    Front Wheelhouse Liner Bolt- Left Side and Right Side (1) - Remove [4x]

  9. Front Compartment Air Deflector Retainer- Left Side and Right Side (2) - Remove [2x]
  10. Front Bumper Fascia Lower Stiffener Bolt- Left Side and Right Side (3) - Remove [6x]

    Front Compartment Air Deflector- Left Side and Right Side (1) - Remove [2x]

    Front Bumper Fascia Air Deflector Bolt (1) - Remove [4x]

  13. Front Bumper Fascia Air Deflector Retainer (2) - Remove
  14. Support the front cradle shear plate using a suitable jack.

    Front Cradle Shear Plate Bolt (1) - Remove [4x]

  16. Front Cradle Shear Plate Nut (2) - Remove [2x]
  17. Front Crossmember Brace Bolt (3) - Remove [8x]

    Front Wheelhouse Liner Bolt (1) - Remove [2x]

    Position the left and right side wheelhouse liners (1) away from the front cradle sheer plate (2).

  20. Remove the front cradle sheer plate (2) from between the front bumper fascia center air deflector and the driveline and front suspension cradle and lower it from the vehicle.

    Loosen the left and right steering linkage outer tie rod nuts (1).

    CAUTION:

    Do not attempt to disconnect a steering linkage joint by driving a wedge between the joint and the attached part. Seal damage may result which will cause premature failure of the joint.

    NOTE:

    Using the CH-42188-B  Ball Joint Separator (1), separate the left and right steering linkage outer tie rods (2) from the left and right steering knuckles.

    Remove the left and right steering linkage outer tie rod nuts (1).

    Separate the left and right steering linkage outer tie rods (1) from the left and right steering knuckles.

    Intermediate Steering Shaft Lower Bolt (1) @ Electric Belt Drive Rack and Pinion Steering Gear - Remove

  26. Intermediate Steering Shaft (2) @ Electric Belt Drive Rack and Pinion Steering Gear - Separate

    Disconnect the electrical connectors (1).

  28. Remove the tie strap securing the engine wiring harness to the electric belt drive rack and pinion steering gear.
  29. Reposition the engine wiring harness away.

    Steering Gear Nut (1) - Remove [2x]

  31. Steering Gear Bolt (2) - Remove and DISCARD [2x]
  32. Electric Belt Drive Rack and Pinion Steering Gear (3) - Remove
