Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle

    Automatic Transmission Fluid Filter (1) - Remove - Automatic Transmission Fluid, Fluid Pan and/or Filter Replacement 

  3. Transmission - Remove - Transmission Replacement (Rear Wheel Drive) , or Transmission Replacement (All Wheel Drive)

    Install the DT-48989  Holding Fixture (2) onto the transmission.

  5. Install the transmission (4) with DT-48989  Holding Fixture (2) onto the DT-03289-20  Holding Fixture Base Assembly (1)
  6. Ensure that the DT-21366  Converter Holding Strap installed during transmission removal secures the torque converter (3) into the transmission.
  7. Rotate the transmission so that the transmission pan is up then secure it with the locking pin.

    Automatic Transmission Range Selector Lever Nut (1) - Remove

    CAUTION:

    This vehicle is equipped with torque-to-yield or single use fasteners. Install a NEW torque-to-yield or single use fastener when installing this component. Failure to replace the torque-to-yield or single use fastener could cause damage to the vehicle or component.

    Automatic Transmission Fluid Baffle Bolt (1) - Remove and DISCARD [2x]

  11. Automatic Transmission Fluid Baffle (2) - Remove
  12. The driven sprocket (3) locking tab is located on the back of the sprocket.
  13. Rotate the driven sprocket (3) as shown and simultaneously pull back and up on the tab indicated by arrow to release the retainer.
  14. Remove the driven sprocket (3) from the oil pump shaft leaving the drive link (chain) loose in the case.

    Electrical Connector @ Automatic Transmission Control Wiring Harness (1) - Disconnect

  16. Manual Shift Detent Lever Spring Bolt (2) - Remove
  17. Manual Shift Detent Lever Spring (3) - Remove
  18. Electrical Connector @ Automatic Transmission Wiring Harness (4) - Disconnect

    NOTE:

    Do not remove all the bolts in the control valve body assembly. Remove only the bolts indicated.

    Use DT-48285  Valve Body Torx Plus Socket to remove the Control Valve Solenoid Body Bolts.

  20. Control Valve Solenoid Body Bolt (1) - Remove [4x]
  21. Control Valve Solenoid Body Bolt (2) - Remove [7x]
  22. Manual Valve (3) - Disconnect
  23. CAUTION:

    Use care when handling the control valve body assembly. If dropped, damage to the control solenoid valve body assembly internal components may result.

  24. Control Valve Body Assembly (4) - Remove

    Clutch Housing Fluid Passage Seal (1) - Remove and DISCARD

    Manual Shift Shaft Pin (1) - Remove and DISCARD

  27. Manual Shift Detent Lever Hub Pin (2) - Remove and DISCARD

    NOTE:

    Clean area around shift shaft prior to removal.

    Manual Shift Shaft (1) - Remove

    NOTE:

    Ensure that the manual valve linkage (4) and the manual valve linkage spring (3) remain on the automatic transmission manual shift shaft position switch (2).

    Remove the park pawl actuator (1) and the automatic transmission manual shift shaft position switch (2) from the transmission.

    Rotate the park pawl actuator (1) as shown then remove it from the automatic transmission manual shift shaft position switch (2).
