Installation Procedure

    Automatic Transmission Manual Shift Shaft Position Switch (2) - Install

  2. Connect the park pawl actuator rod (1) to the automatic transmission manual shift shaft position switch.
  3. Transfer the manual valve linkage (3) and the manual valve linkage spring (4) as necessary.

    Manual Shift Shaft (1) - Remove

    Manual Shift Shaft Pin (1) - Install NEW

  6. Manual Shift Detent Lever Hub Pin (2) - Install NEW

    Clutch Housing Fluid Passage Seal (1) - Install NEW

    CAUTION:

    Use care when handling the control valve body assembly. If dropped, damage to the control solenoid valve body assembly internal components may result.

    Control Valve Body Assembly (1) - Install

  9. Using the DT-48285  Valve Body Torx Plus Socket, loosely install the control valve solenoid body bolts.
  10. CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

  11. Control Valve Solenoid Body Bolt (2) - Tighten [7x] - Fastener Specifications
  12. Control Valve Solenoid Body Bolt (3) - Tighten [4x] - Fastener Specifications
  13. Manual Valve (4) - Connect

    Manual Shift Detent Lever Spring (1) - Install

  15. Manual Shift Detent Lever Spring Bolt (2) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
  16. Electrical Connector @ Automatic Transmission Control Wiring Harness (3) - Connect
  17. Electrical Connector @ Automatic Transmission Wiring Harness (4) - Connect

    NOTE:

    Ensure the driven sprocket locking tab is in the unlocked position before installing the sprocket.

    The driven sprocket (1) locking tab is located on the back of the sprocket and faces the pump indicated by arrow.

  19. Install the drive link (chain) to the driven sprocket (1) and then install the driven sprocket (1) to the oil pump shaft.
  20. Rotate the sprocket as shown and push down on the tab until it locks the driven sprocket (1) in place.
  21. Automatic Transmission Fluid Baffle (2) - Install
  22. CAUTION:

    This vehicle is equipped with torque-to-yield or single use fasteners. Install a NEW torque-to-yield or single use fastener when installing this component. Failure to replace the torque-to-yield or single use fastener could cause damage to the vehicle or component.

  23. Automatic Transmission Fluid Baffle Bolt (3) - Install NEW and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications

    WARNING:

    The torque converter must be held to the torque converter housing by a retaining device such as shipping brackets. Without the retaining device, the torque converter may slide forward, disengaging the oil pump, or may fall completely out of the transmission causing personal injury and/or property damage.

    Ensure that the DT-21366  Converter Holding Strap installed during transmission removal secures the torque converter (3) into the transmission.

  25. Rotate the transmission to its original position then secure it with the locking pin.
  26. Remove the transmission from the DT-48989  Holding Fixture (2).
  27. Transmission - Install - Transmission Replacement (Rear Wheel Drive) , or Transmission Replacement (All Wheel Drive)

    Automatic Transmission Fluid Filter (1) - Install - Automatic Transmission Fluid, Fluid Pan and/or Filter Replacement

    Automatic Transmission Range Selector Lever Cable Lever (2) - Install

  30. Automatic Transmission Range Selector Lever Nut (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
  31. Fill the transmission to the proper level with NEW transmission fluid. Transmission Fluid Fill Procedure
  32. Lower the vehicle.
  33. Perform the necessary programming and setup procedure: Q77 Transmission Control Solenoid Valve Characterization Programming (8L45) , or Q77 Transmission Control Solenoid Valve Characterization Programming (10L60)
  34. NOTE:

    The Service Fast Learn procedure must be performed when one of the following repairs have been made to the vehicle. Failure to perform the procedure after one of the following repairs may result in poor transmission performance, as well as transmission DTCs being set:

    The service fast learn procedure must be performed when any of the following repairs has been made to the transmission.

    • Pressure regulating solenoid replacement
    • Valve body repair or replacement
    • Any service/repair in response to a shift quality concern
    • Any internal transmission service, repair, overhaul, or replacement
    • Torque converter replacement
    • Transmission control module replacement
    • Transmission assembly replacement
  35. Perform the necessary programming and setup procedure: Transmission Service Fast Learn Procedure 
  36. Check the transmission range selector lever in all gear selections for proper operation and perform range selector lever cable adjustment if needed. Automatic Transmission Range Selector Lever Cable Adjustment
