Component Testing

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2018 Cadillac CTS. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

S3 Transmission Shift Lever

  1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
  2. Disconnect the electrical connector: S2 Transmission Manual Shift Switch
  3. Test for 6, 000 to 6, 200 ohms between the test points: Signal terminal 3 & Ground terminal 2
    • If not between 6, 000 and 6, 200 ohms 

      Replace the component: S2 Transmission Manual Shift Switch

    • Go to next step: If between 6, 000 and 6, 200 ohms 
  4. Operate the component: S3 Transmission Shift Lever = Forward
  5. Test for 600 to 700 ohms between the test points: Signal terminal 3 & Ground terminal 2
    • If not between 600 and 700 ohms 

      Replace the component: S3 Transmission Shift Lever

    • Go to next step: If between 600 and 700 ohms 
  6. Operate the component: S3 Transmission Shift Lever = Rearward
  7. Test for 1900 to 2100 ohms between the test points: Signal terminal 3 & Ground terminal 2
    • If not between 1900 and 2100 ohms 

      Replace the component: S3 Transmission Shift Lever

    • Go to next step: If between 1900 and 2100 ohms 
  8. All OK.

S2L Transmission Manual Shift Switch - Left - S2R Transmission Manual Shift Switch - Right

  1. Test for infinite resistance between the test points: Signal circuit terminal 1 & Ground circuit terminal 2@S2R Transmission Manual Shift Switch - Right
    • If less than infinite resistanceIf not infinite resistance 

      Replace the component: S2R Transmission Manual Shift Switch - Right

    • Go to next step: If infinite resistance 
  2. Operate the component: S2R Transmission Manual Shift Switch - Right
  3. Test for 500 to 750 ohms between the test points: Signal circuit terminal 1 & Ground circuit terminal 2@S2R Transmission Manual Shift Switch - Right
    • If not in the specified range 

      Replace the component: S2R Transmission Manual Shift Switch - Right

    • Go to next step: If in the specified range 
  4. Test for 5400 to 5800 ohms between the test points: Signal circuit terminal 2 & Ground circuit terminal 1@S2L Transmission Manual Shift Switch - Left
    • If not in the specified range 

      Replace the component: S2L Transmission Manual Shift Switch - Left

    • Go to next step: If in the specified range 
  5. Operate the component: S2L Transmission Manual Shift Switch - Left
  6. Test for 1200 to 1500 ohms between the test points: Signal circuit terminal 2 & Ground circuit terminal 1@S2L Transmission Manual Shift Switch - Left
    • If not in the specified range 

      Replace the component: S2L Transmission Manual Shift Switch - Left

    • Go to next step: If in the specified range 
  7. Replace the component: K9 Body Control Module
