Removal Procedure

Remove the transmission fluid filter (4). Refer to Automatic Transmission Fluid, Fluid Pan and/or Filter Replacement (Rear Wheel Drive) , or Automatic Transmission Fluid, Fluid Pan and/or Filter Replacement (All Wheel Drive) .
- NOTE:
Mark and identify electrical connectors before removal to ensure correct installation.
Release the transmission control wiring harness connectors (1).
- Carefully disconnect the wiring harness clip (5) from the valve body.
- If necessary, remove the control valve body from the transmission. Control Valve Body Replacement (M5N)
- If equipped, unlatch the connector retainer (3), then disconnect the main connector (2).
- Remove the transmission control wiring harness (4).
NOTE:
If replacing the wiring harness, the new wiring harness may not have electrical connector (2). If it does not have electrical connector (2), the control valve body will have to be removed.
