Circuit/System Testing
- Ignition OFF and all vehicle systems OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the S3 Transmission Shift Lever. It may take up to 2 min for all vehicle systems to power down.
- Test for less than 10 Ω between the ground circuit terminal 2 and ground.
- If 10 Ω or greater
- Ignition OFF.
- Test for less than 2 Ω in the ground circuit end to end.
- If greater than 2 Ω, repair the Open/High resistance in the circuit
- If less than 2 Ω, repair the ground connection
- Go to next step: If less than 10 Ω
- Ignition ON.
- Test for 11 - 13 V between the signal circuit terminal 3 and ground.
- If not between 11 - 13 V
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the connector at the BCM.
- Test for infinite resistance between the signal circuit and ground.
- If less than infinite resistance, repair the short to ground in the circuit
- Go to next step: If infinite resistance
- Test for less than 2 Ω in the signal circuit end to end.
- If 2 Ω or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
- If less than 2 Ω, replace the BCM.
- Go to next step: If between 11 - 13 V
- Ignition OFF, connect the harness connector at the S3 Transmission Shift Lever, Ignition ON, transmission shift lever in the M or manual mode position.
- Test for voltage between the S3 Transmission Shift Lever connector signal circuit terminal 3 and ground, by back probing the connector, for the conditions listed below:
- 2.0 - 4.6 V - Plus button pressed
- 5.1 - 7.3 V - Minus button pressed
- 8.0 - 10.6 V - Neither button pressed
- If voltage values are not correct
Replace the S3 Transmission Shift Lever
- Go to next step: If voltage valued are correct
- Replace the K9 Body Control Module.
