Circuit/System Description

The dome lamp switch has 3 positions: DOOR, OFF, and ON. The ON position provides a ground for continuous operation and the dome/courtesy lamps will remain illuminated until the switch is placed in either the DOOR or OFF position. When in the DOOR position, the dome/courtesy lamps operation is controlled by the body control module (BCM). The BCM applies battery voltage to the interior courtesy lamps through the dome/courtesy lamps control circuit at terminal 1 X7. When any door is opened, the jam switch contacts close and the BCM receives a door-ajar input. If the BCM receives a door lock or unlock input or a rear hatch open input, the BCM responds by applying battery voltage to the interior courtesy lamps through the dome/courtesy lamps control circuit at terminal 1 X7. After all doors have been closed, the dome lamps will remain illuminated approximately 3 seconds after the last door closes. In the event that any of the dome/courtesy lamps were to remain illuminated for more than 10 minutes with the ignition switch in the OFF position, the BCM will deactivate the dome/courtesy lamp control circuit to prevent total battery discharge.

When the driver places the dome lamp cancel switch in the OFF position, the dome/courtesy lamps will be disabled when any door is opened and an amber indicator located on the dome lamp cancel switch will illuminate to inform the driver that the dome lamp cancel switch is in the OFF position.
