Removal Procedure

  1. Drain the coolant system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling (Vac N Fill L83 L86)Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static Fill L83 L86) .
  2. Remove the fuel injector rail. Refer to Fuel Injection Fuel Rail Assembly Replacement - Bank 2 .
  3. Remove the generator bracket. Refer to Generator Bracket Replacement (L83, L86) .
  4. Remove the exhaust manifold. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Replacement - Right Side (L83, L86) .
  5. Remove the ground wire bolt from the rear of the cylinder head and position the ground wire away.
  6. Remove the valve rocker arms and push rods. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement .

    NOTE:

    Ensure to DISCARD all cylinder head bolts.

  7. Remove the cylinder head bolts (1).
  8. Disconnect electrical connectors as necessary.
  9. Remove cylinder head (2).
  10. Remove and DISCARD cylinder head gasket (3). Refer to Replacing Engine Gaskets .
  11. For cleaning and inspection. Refer to Cylinder Head Cleaning and Inspection .
  12. For cylinder head disassemble. Refer to Cylinder Head Disassemble .
