Torque Converter Replacement

Preliminary Procedure 
Remove the transmission. Refer to Transmission Replacement .
1 Converter Holding Strap
WARNING:

The torque converter must be held to the torque converter housing by a retaining device such as shipping brackets. Without the retaining device, the torque converter may slide forward, disengaging the oil pump, or may fall completely out of the transmission causing personal injury and/or property damage.

2 Torque Converter Assembly

Procedure

  1. Place a drain pan under the front of the transmission.
  2. Use care not to damage the torque converter seal during the installation procedure.
  3. Spin the torque converter to engage the turbine shaft splines in the torque converter hub, the stator shaft splines in the stator race and to engage the drive flats on the converter pump hub with the oil pump drive gear.
NOTE:

Lubricate the converter pump hub OD and the torque converter seal with clean transmission fluid.
