Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the water pump. Refer to Water Pump Replacement (L96) .
  2. Remove the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement .

  4. Disconnect the engine harness electrical connector (1) from the camshaft position (CMP) sensor wire harness electrical connector.
  5. Remove the bolt (2) attaching the harness to the oil pan.
  6. Detach the harness retainer (3) and position the harness away from the oil pan.

  8. Remove the oil pan-to-front cover bolts (1).

  10. Remove the front cover bolts (1).
  11. Remove the front cover (2) and gasket (3).
  12. Discard the front cover gasket.
  13. Remove the crankshaft front oil seal.
  14. If replacing the engine front cover perform the following steps, otherwise proceed to step 10 of the installation procedure.

  16. Remove the CMP sensor wire harness bolts (1).
  17. Disconnect the CMP sensor wire harness from the CMP sensor.
  18. Remove the CMP sensor wire harness (2).

  20. Remove the CMP sensor (1) and O-ring seal (2).

  22. Remove the CMP actuator magnet bolts (1), and magnet (2).
  23. Remove and discard the CMP actuator magnet gasket (3).
