Removal Procedure

- Remove the water pump. Refer to Water Pump Replacement (L96) .
- Remove the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement .
- Disconnect the engine harness electrical connector (1) from the camshaft position (CMP) sensor wire harness electrical connector.
- Remove the bolt (2) attaching the harness to the oil pan.
- Detach the harness retainer (3) and position the harness away from the oil pan.
- Remove the oil pan-to-front cover bolts (1).
- Remove the front cover bolts (1).
- Remove the front cover (2) and gasket (3).
- Discard the front cover gasket.
- Remove the crankshaft front oil seal.
- If replacing the engine front cover perform the following steps, otherwise proceed to step 10 of the installation procedure.
- Remove the CMP sensor wire harness bolts (1).
- Disconnect the CMP sensor wire harness from the CMP sensor.
- Remove the CMP sensor wire harness (2).
- Remove the CMP sensor (1) and O-ring seal (2).
- Remove the CMP actuator magnet bolts (1), and magnet (2).
- Remove and discard the CMP actuator magnet gasket (3).
