Circuit/System Testing

NOTE:

Circuit/System Verification must be performed before proceeding with Circuit/System Testing.

Head-Up Display=Inoperative

  1. Ignition/Vehicle & All vehicle systems - Off
  2. Disconnect the electrical connector: X1 @ P16 Instrument Cluster
  3. Disconnect the electrical connector: P29 Head-Up Display
  4. Ignition - On / Vehicle - In Service Mode
  5. Test for less than 1 V between the test points:Serial Data circuit terminal 21 @ P16 Instrument Cluster Component harness & Ground
    • If 1 V or greater - Repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
    • Go to next step: If less than 1 V
  6. Ignition/Vehicle & All vehicle systems - Off
  7. Test for infinite resistance between the test points: Serial Data circuit terminal 21 @ P16 Instrument Cluster Component harness & Ground
    • If less than infinite resistance - Repair the short to ground on the circuit.
    • Go to next step: If infinite resistance
  8. Disconnect the electrical connector:S70R Steering Wheel Controls Switch - Right
  9. Ignition - On / Vehicle - In Service Mode
  10. Test for less than 1 V between the test points:Serial Data circuit terminal 5 @ Component harness & Ground
    • If 1 V or greater - Repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
    • Go to next step: If less than 1 V
  11. Ignition/Vehicle & All vehicle systems - Off
  12. Test for infinite resistance between the test points: Serial Data circuit terminal 5 @ Component harness & Ground
    • If less than infinite resistance - Repair the short to ground on the circuit.
    • Go to next step: If infinite resistance
  13. Replace the component:Low-Voltage Differential Signaling Cable@P29 Head-Up Display & P16 Instrument Cluster
  14. Ignition/Vehicle & All vehicle systems - Off
  15. Perform the scan tool function:Head-Up Display Pattern Check
  16. Verify the component activates:P29 Head-Up Display
    • If the specified state

      All OK.

    • Go to next step: If not the specified state
  17. Connect the component:P16 Instrument Cluster & S70R Steering Wheel Controls Switch - Right
  18. Ignition - On / Vehicle - In Service Mode
  19. Verify the function:Steering Wheel Controls

      Replace the component:P29 Head-Up Display

    • Go to next step: If not the specified state
  20. Ignition/Vehicle & All vehicle systems - Off
  21. Disconnect the electrical connector:S70R Steering Wheel Controls Switch - Right
  22. Connect the component:P29 Head-Up Display
  23. Ignition - On / Vehicle - In Service Mode
  24. Verify the function:Head-Up Display Switch
    • If the specified state

Replace the component:S70R Steering Wheel Controls Switch - Right

    • Go to next step: If not the specified state
  25. Replace the component:P16 Instrument Cluster

Head-Up Display Switch=Inoperative

  1. Ignition/Vehicle & All vehicle systems - Off
  2. Disconnect the electrical connector: S27 Head-Up Display Switch
  3. Test for less than 10 ohms between the test points: Low Reference circuit terminal 3 & Ground
    • If 10 ohms or greater
    1. Disconnect the electrical connector: P29 Head-Up Display
    2. Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points: Low Reference circuit terminal 3 @ Component harness & The other end of the circuit
      • If ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 ohms - Replace the component: P29 Head-Up Display
    • Go to next step: If less than 10 ohms
  4. Test for 4.8 to 5.2V between the test points: Signal circuit terminal 4 & Ground
    • If less than 4.8 V
    1. Ignition/Vehicle - Off
    2. Disconnect the electrical connector: P29 Head-Up Display
    3. Test for infinite resistance between the test points: Signal circuit terminal 4 @ Component harness & Ground
      • If less than infinite resistance - Repair the short to ground on the circuit.
      • Go to next step: If infinite resistance
    4. Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points: Signal circuit terminal 4 @ Component harness & The other end of the circuit
      • If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 ohms - Replace the component: P29 Head-Up Display
