Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the battery tray. Refer to Battery Tray Replacement .
  2. Remove the transmission range select lever cable and bracket.
  3. Drain the transmission fluid. Refer to Transmission Fluid Drain and Fill .

  5. Remove the wire harness retainer (2) from the control valve body cover stud.
  6. Disconnect the control valve body transmission control module (TCM) electrical connector (1).

  8. Remove the transmission fluid cooler pipe retainer nut (1).
  9. Remove the transmission fluid cooler inlet hose and seal (2) from the transmission.
  10. Plug and/or cap the hose and transmission to prevent contamination.

  12. Remove the transmission fluid cooler pipe retainer nut (1).
  13. Remove the transmission fluid cooler outlet hose and seal (2) from the transmission.
  14. Plug and/or cap the hose and transmission to prevent contamination.
  15. Disconnect both pipes from the retainer.
  16. Install the engine support fixture. Refer to Engine Support Fixture (LFX)Engine Support Fixture (LF3) .
  17. Remove the transmission brace. Refer to Transmission Brace Replacement .
  18. Remove the rear transmission mount from the transmission. Refer to Transmission Rear Mount Replacement (FWD) .
  19. Remove the front transmission mount from the transmission. Refer to Transmission Front Mount Replacement .
  20. Remove the left transmission mount from the transmission. Refer to Transmission Mount Replacement - Left Side .

  22. Remove the upper transmission to engine bolts (1, 2).
  23. Remove the frame. Refer to Drivetrain and Front Suspension Frame Replacement .
  24. Disconnect the wheel drive shafts from the transmission. Refer to Front Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement - Left Side , and Front Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement - Right Side (FWD) .
  25. Remove the intermediate drive shaft. Refer to Front Wheel Drive Intermediate Shaft Replacement .
  26. Remove the electronic suspension front position sensor - left side. Refer to Electronic Suspension Front Position Sensor Replacement .

  28. Remove the starter. Refer to Starter Replacement (LF3)Starter Replacement (LFX) .
  29. Mark the relationship of the flywheel to the torque converter for reassembly.
  30. Remove the torque converter to flywheel bolts.
  31. Use a transmission jack in order to support the transmission.

  33. Remove the flywheel inspection cover bolts (2, 3).
  34. Remove the flywheel inspection cover (1).
  35. Remove the remaining transmission bolts (4).
  36. NOTE:

    Ensure the torque converter remains securely in place on the transmission input shaft while separating and removing the transmission.

  37. Separate the transmission from the engine.
  38. Lower the transmission with the transmission jack far enough to remove the transmission.
  39. Flush and flow test the transmission oil cooler and lines. Refer to Transmission Fluid Cooler Flow Test and Flushing .
