Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  2. Remove the transfer case shield, if equipped. Refer to Transfer Case Shield Replacement .
  3. Remove the front propeller shaft. Refer to Front Axle Propeller Shaft Replacement (NQH)Front Axle Propeller Shaft Replacement (Heavy Duty) .
    4. NOTE:

    Remove the front output shaft seal in two pieces using the following procedure.

  4. Insert a screwdriver between the metal inner and metal outer portions of the seal.
  5. Pry upward in multiple locations working the metal inner portion of the seal off the shaft until removed.
  6. Once the inner metal portion is removed, insert a screwdriver between the outer diameter metal flange of the seal and the housing.
  7. Drive the screwdriver inward in multiple locations, the outer portion of the seal will be distorted and can easily be removed from the housing.
