Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2017 Chevrolet Suburban 3500 HD. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The optional oil cooler is either an integral part of the radiator or a separate unit placed in front of the radiator. The cooler lines and hoses are serviceable.

  1. Air Cleaner Assembly - Remove - Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement

  3. Disconnect the oil cooler lines from the radiator. Refer to Metal Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .
  4. Remove the oil cooler hoses from the clip.
  5. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  6. Place a jack or utility stands at the rear of the vehicle.
  7. If equipped, remove the underbody skid shield. Refer to Underbody Skid Shield Replacement .
  8. If equipped, remove the steering gear skid shield. Refer to Steering Gear Skid Shield Replacement .

  10. Support the front differential carrier with a suitable adjustable jack.
  11. For 8.25 inch axle, remove the front axle right side nuts and the left side bolts.
  12. For 9.25 inch axle, remove the front differential carrier bracket nuts and bolts from the front differential carrier assembly.

  14. Lower the differential carrier.
  15. Remove the oil cooler hose bracket bolt. (1)

  17. Remove the oil cooler hose adapter bolts. (1)
  18. Remove the oil cooler hose assembly (2). Discard the gasket (3).
  19. Inspect the fittings, connectors, and cooler hoses for damage or distortion.
