Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2017 Chevrolet Suburban 3500 HD. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

    IMPORTANT:

    For proper orientation, note the installation direction of the oil seal. The oil seal is a reverse-lip design. Install with "THIS SIDE OUT" displayed as shown.

  1. Inspect the seal for proper orientation.

  3. Install the EN - 41479-2A  crankshaft rear oil seal installation guide cone (2) and bolts onto the rear of the crankshaft.
  4. Tighten the bolts until snug. Do not overtighten.
  5. Install the rear oil seal (1) onto the tapered cone (2) and push the seal to the rear seal bore. Install the oil seal with "THIS SIDE OUT" facing away from the engine.
  6. Install the EN - 41479-10  crankshaft rear oil seal installer adapter (3) onto EN - 41479  crankshaft rear oil seal installer (4).
  7. Thread the EN - 41479  crankshaft rear oil seal installer threaded rod into the tapered cone until the tool contacts the oil seal.
  8. Align the oil seal (1) onto the tool.
  9. Rotate the handle of the tool clockwise until the seal enters the rear housing and bottoms into the seal bore.
  10. Remove the tool.
  11. Install the automatic transmission flexplate. Refer to Automatic Transmission Flex Plate Replacement
