Circuit/System Description

The driver shift request, also known as the TAP Up/Downshift manual shift function, allows the driver to select the desired range of gears for current driving conditions. The driver shift request function is activated when the gear selector is in the manual mode position. The driver shift system is deactivated in all other range positions. To place the shift lever in manual mode, place the shift lever in drive position and press the button on top of the shifter. To exit manual mode, press the button a second time. When manual mode is selected, the letter M is illuminated on the PRNDL display. A set of Tap Up/Downshift switches are located on the steering wheel horizontal crossbar facing the instrument panel. The plus (+) switch is located on the side of the steering wheel and is used to command upshifts. The minus (-) switch is on the left side of the steering wheel and is used to command downshifts. The PRNDL display will change to indicate the gear that you selected.

The transmission manual shift switch receives 12 V from a fuse in the underhood fuse block. The driver shift request is sent on a signal circuit to the body control module (BCM).
