| Condition | General Motors has decided that certain 2016-2017 model year Cadillac CT6, CTS, Escalade, Escalade ESV, and XTS vehicles fail to conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 135, "Light vehicle brake systems." The telltale light that illuminates within the cluster when the park brake is applied does not meet the lettering height requirement of S5.5.5(a) of FMVSS 135. The regulation requires such lettering to be not less than 3.2 mm in height. The park brake applied lettering on the subject vehicles is 2.436 mm. |

SERVICE PROCEDURE
Carefully read and follow the instructions below.
- Ensure the programming tool is equipped with the latest software and is securely connected to the data link connector. If there is an interruption during programming, programming failure or ECU damage may occur.
- Stable battery voltage is critical during programming. Any fluctuation, spiking, over voltage or loss of voltage will interrupt programming. When required, install the EL-49642 SPS Programming Support Tool to maintain system voltage. If not available, connect a fully charged 12 V jumper or booster pack disconnected from the AC voltage supply. DO NOT connect a battery charger.
- Turn OFF or disable systems that may put a load on the vehicles battery such as; interior lights, exterior lights (including daytime running lights), HVAC, radio, etc.
- Clear DTCs after programming is complete. Clearing powertrain DTCs will set the Inspection/Maintenance (I/M) system status indicators to NO.
- To prevent programming failure due to unintended wireless drops, it is important that a wired MDI connection be used when reprogramming the Instrument Cluster.
If the Same Calibration/Software Warning is noted on the SPS Controller screen, continue with the programming event using SPS to ensure a Warranty Claim Code is displayed on screen. Technicians MUST record the Warranty Claim Code (1) on the Job Card. To avoid warranty transaction rejection, this information must be entered when submitting the transaction.
- Install EL-49642 SPS programming support tool.
- Access the Service Programming System (SPS) and follow the on-screen instructions.NOTE:
A same calibrations warning may be displayed in SPS when attempting to perform Instrument Cluster - Programming. The instrument panel cluster (IPC) has the latest part number available and programming is not needed. Proceed to the next step in the service procedure.
- On the SPS Supported Controllers screen, select Instrument Cluster - Programming and follow the on-screen instructions.
- On the SPS Supported Controllers screen, select Instrument Cluster - Setup and Configuration and follow the on-screen instructions.NOTE:
This procedure requires the use of a USB memory stick. The radio must be on during this procedure. Do not use the software on the USB memory stick in multiple vehicles. The USB memory stick must be cleared after each USB programming event.
- On the SPS Supported Controllers screen, select Instrument Cluster - USB File Transfer and follow the on-screen instructions. When prompted after installing files in vehicle via USB memory stick, select UPDATE on radio display. When update is complete, select DISMISS and remove the USB memory stick.
- At the end of programming, choose the "Clear All DTCs" function on the SPS screen.
- CALIFORNIA VEHICLES ONLY: Complete a "Proof of Correction" certificate and provide to the vehicle owner upon recall completion.
