Valve Lifter Cleaning and Inspection

- Inspect the hydraulic lash adjuster (HLA) in the following areas:
CAUTION: Refer to Valve Lifter Priming Caution .
- A plugged oil passage (1)
- A scored or worn camshaft follower pivot area (2)
- A damaged or broken retainer (3), some applications
- A severely scuffed or worn HLA body (4)
- Inspect the duel feed hydraulic lash adjuster (DFHLA) in the following areas:
- A plugged oil passage (5)
- A scored or worn camshaft follower pivot area (6)
- A damaged or broken retainer (7), some applications
- A severely scuffed or worn DFHLA body (8)
- Replace the HLA or DFHLAs as necessary.
