Oil Pump Cleaning and Inspection

- Clean the components in solvent.
NOTE: The internal components of the oil pump assembly are not serviced separately. If the oil pump components are worn or damaged, replace the oil pump as an assembly.
- Dry the components with compressed air.WARNING: Refer to Safety Glasses and Compressed Air Warning .
- Inspect the oil pump housing (12), intermediate cover (11), intermediate housing (9) and the housing cover (1) for cracks, excessive wear, scoring or casting imperfections.
- Inspect the oil pump housing-to-oil pan sealing surface for scratches or gouging.
- Inspect the oil pump base-to-engine block oil gallery surfaces for scratches or gouging.
- Inspect the oil pump base for damaged bolt hole threads.
- Inspect the pump slide (8) for excessive wear, scoring or gouges.
- Inspect the oil pump internal oil passages for restrictions.
- Inspect the oil pump rotor (4) and vanes (3) for cracks, wear or damage.
- Inspect the oil pump slide spring (7) for breakage.
- Inspect the oil pump slide (8) and slide seals (6) for cuts or damage.
- Inspect the Oil Pressure Relief Valve Plug (15) for leaks or damage.
- Inspect the Oil Flow Control Solenoid O-rings (16, 17) cracks or damage.
