Power Seat Adjuster Mechanical Diagnosis

Condition Possible Cause Correction
Horizontal Operation of Seat Not Smooth but Jerky-Apparent Hard Operation
  • Check for debris under seat in track.
  • The adjuster horizontal actuator is damaged.
  • Remove debris.
  • Replace the adjuster assembly.
Horizontal Chuck or Looseness
  • The horizontal actuator is improperly adjusted to the rack.
  • The top plate subassembly is loose.
  • Drive screw for adjuster is worn.
  • Replace the adjuster assembly.
  • Replace the adjuster assembly.
  • Replace the adjuster assembly.
One Adjuster Will Not Operate Horizontally
  • The horizontal drive cable is disconnected or damaged.
  • The horizontal actuator is inoperative.
  • Inspect the drive cables, they must be straight to be engaged. Replace if damaged.
  • Replace the adjuster assembly.
One Adjuster Will not Operate Vertically
  • The vertical drive cable is disconnected or damaged.
  • The vertical actuator subassembly is inoperative.
  • Inspect the vertical drive cables, replace if damaged.
  • Replace the adjuster assembly.
Both Adjusters Will Not Operate Horizontally and/or Vertically
  • The actuator is damaged or inoperative.
  • The wiring harness is damaged.
  • Replace the adjuster assembly
  • Replace the wiring harness.
Vertical Chuck or Looseness The vertical actuator is inoperative. Replace the adjuster assembly.
