Oil Pan Cleaning and Inspection

  1. Remove the oil filter fitting (438), as required.

  3. Remove the active fuel management oil pressure relief valve (455) and washer.
  4. Inspect the oil pressure relief valve for proper operation. Lightly depress the valve (2). The valve spring (1) should seat the valve to the proper closed position.

    IMPORTANT:

    Some oil pan baffles may have been attached to the oil pan with rivets. After cleaning the oil pan, if debris is present and cannot be completely removed, oil pan replacement may be necessary.

  6. Remove the bolts (427) and baffle (428).

  8. Remove the oil pan cover (434), bolts (435), and gasket (433).
  9. Clean the oil pan in solvent.
  10. WARNING:

    Refer to Safety Glasses Warning .

  11. Dry the oil pan with compressed air.

  13. Inspect the oil pan for the following conditions:
    • Damaged gasket surfaces (1)
    • Restrictions within the oil passages (2) of the pan
    • Damaged oil filter seal surface (3)

  15. Install the oil pan cover (434), gasket (433), and bolts (435).
  16. CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

  17. Tighten the oil pan cover bolts (435) to 9 N.m (80 lb in).

    IMPORTANT:

  19. Install the oil pan baffle (428) and bolts (427).
  20. Tighten the oil pan baffle bolts (427) to 9 N.m (80 lb in).

  22. Install the active fuel management oil pressure relief valve (455) and tighten to 27 N.m (20 lb ft).

  24. Install the oil filter fitting (438), as required, and tighten to 55 N.m (40 lb ft).
