Callout Component Name

Preliminary Procedure

  • Inspect all components or sub-components and perform any repair procedure necessary to fix the damage. If the damage cannot be repaired, replace the component or sub-component as indicated.
  • Clean all components in cleaning solvent and air dry, except the clutch plates.
1 Transfer Case Control Actuator Thrust Bearing
NOTE:

Replace the bearing if roughness, brinelling, or pitting is detected.

2 Transfer Case Control Actuator Lever Thrust Bearing Surface
NOTE:

Inspect for pitting, excessive wear, or damage.

3 Transfer Case Control Actuator Lever Bearing Surface
NOTE:

Inspect for pitting, excessive wear, or damage.

4 Transfer Case Control Lever Arm
NOTE:

Inspect for excessive wear or damage.

5 Transfer Case Control Actuator Lever Ball Ramps
NOTE:

Inspect for pitting, excessive wear, or damage.

6 Transfer Case Control Actuator Lever Bearing
NOTE:

Replace the bearing if roughness, brinelling, or pitting is detected.

7 Transfer Case Control Actuator Lever Balls
NOTE:

Replace the bearings if roughness or pitting is detected.

8 Transfer Case Control Actuator Lever Ball Ramps
NOTE:

Inspect for pitting, excessive wear, or damage.

9 Transfer Case Control Actuator Lever Bearing
NOTE:

Replace the control actuator lever assembly if roughness, brinelling, or pitting is detected.

10 Transfer Case Control Actuator Lever Bearing Surface
NOTE:

Inspect for pitting, excessive wear, or damage.

11 Transfer Case Control Actuator Thrust Bearing
NOTE:

Replace the bearing if roughness, brinelling, or pitting is detected.

12 Transfer Case Control Actuator Lever Washer
NOTE:

Inspect for pitting, excessive wear, or damage.

13 Transfer Case Four Wheel Drive Clutch Pressure (Apply) Plate Washer Surface
NOTE:

Inspect for pitting, excessive wear, or damage.

14 Transfer Case Four Wheel Drive Clutch Pressure (Apply) Plate Surface
NOTE:

Inspect for excessive wear, cracks, or damage.

15 Transfer Case Four Wheel Drive Clutch Pressure Plate Springs
NOTE:

Inspect the springs for cracks.

16 Transfer Case Four Wheel Drive Clutch Pressure (Friction) Plates
NOTE:

Inspect for worn, grooved, burnt, or flaking friction material, or warped friction plates.

17 Transfer Case Four Wheel Drive Clutch Pressure (Steel) Plates
NOTE:

Inspect for worn or warped steel plates.

18 Transfer Case Four Wheel Drive Clutch Hub Bearing Surface
NOTE:

Inspect for pitting, excessive wear, or damage.

19 Transfer Case Four Wheel Drive Clutch Hub Teeth
NOTE:

Inspect for excessive wear or damage. Excessive wear can be identified by steps in the teeth.

20 Transfer Case Four Wheel Drive Clutch Hub Friction Plate Surface
NOTE:

Inspect for excessive wear, cracks, or damage.

21 Transfer Case Front Output Shaft Drive Sprocket Engagement Teeth
NOTE:

Inspect the engagement teeth for excessive looseness on the front output shaft drive sprocket.

22 Transfer Case Four Wheel Drive Clutch Housing Teeth
NOTE:

Inspect for excessive wear or damage. Excessive wear can be identified by steps in the teeth.

23 Transfer Case Four Wheel Drive Clutch Hub Splines
NOTE:

Inspect the splines for excessive looseness on the rear output shaft.

24 Transfer Case Two/Four Wheel Drive Actuator Cam
Procedure 
Inspect the cam lobes for wear or roughness. Refer to High/Low Shift Fork Replacement  if damage is found.
25 Transfer Case Two/Four Wheel Drive Actuator Cam Spacer
Procedure 
Inspect the spacer for wear or roughness. Refer to High/Low Shift Fork Replacement  if damage is found.
