Rear Output Shaft Cleaning and Inspection

Rear Output Shaft Cleaning and Inspection

Callout Component Name

Preliminary Procedure

  • Inspect all components or sub-components and perform any repair procedure necessary to fix the damage. If the damage cannot be repaired, replace the component or sub-component as indicated.
  • Clean all components in cleaning solvent and air dry.
1 Transfer Case Rear Output Shaft Splines
NOTE:

Witness marks at the location of the yoke are normal.

2 Transfer Case Oil Pump and Rear Output Shaft Speed Reluctor Wheel Engagement Splines
NOTE:

Witness marks at the location of the components are normal.

3 Transfer Case Front Output Shaft Drive Sprocket Bearing Surface
NOTE:

Inspect for scoring, brinelling, pitting, or excessive wear.

4 Transfer Case Two/Four Wheel Drive Clutch Hub Engagement Splines
NOTE:

Witness marks at the location of the hub is normal.

5 Transfer Case Control Actuator Lever Bearing Surface
NOTE:

Inspect for scoring, brinelling, pitting, or excessive wear.

6 Transfer Case Control Actuator Lever Thrust Bearing Surface
NOTE:

Inspect for scoring, brinelling, pitting, or excessive wear.

7 Transfer Case Engagement Splines
NOTE:

Witness marks at the location of the splines is normal.

8 Transfer Case Input Shaft Pilot Bearing Surface
NOTE:

Inspect for scoring, brinelling, pitting, or excessive wear.

9 Oil Galleries
NOTE:

Compressed air may be necessary to clean the oil galleries.
